ALGS 2025 Open: Team Falcons triumph in front of 250,000 Peak Viewers

May 06, 2025 4 min read

The ALGS: 2025 Open wrapped up on May 5 in New Orleans, serving as the first major international Apex Legends event of the season with a $1 million prize pool on the line. The tournament drew a peak of nearly 250,000 concurrent viewers and earned a place among the top 10 most-watched events in ALGS history by total watch time. However, it fell short of the record-setting peak viewership seen at some of the series’ previous editions.

Announced ahead of ALGS Season 5, the ALGS: 2025 Open marked the debut of a brand-new international tournament introduced as part of Respawn Entertainment’s global revamp of the Apex Legends competitive ecosystem.

The event debuted a 160-team format with no group stage, introduced a new hero ban system targeting the most-picked legends, marked the first use of the Broken Moon map in tournament play, and featured an enhanced Championship Points system. While several other adjustments were implemented, the ALGS: 2025 Open primarily served as a qualifier for the ALGS: 2025 Midseason Playoffs (formerly known as the Split 1 Playoffs).

Team Falcons emerged as the standout champions, with team leader Phillip ‘’ImperialHal’’ Dosen earning MVP honors and securing the squad’s first international title since assembling their current roster. The top five teams advanced to the ALGS: 2025 Midseason Playoffs, with Alliance, Al Qadsiah, 100 Thieves, and Shopify Rebellion joining Team Falcons in the next stage.

A special mention goes to Natus Vincere, who fielded the former GoNext Esports roster, winners of the ALGS: 2024 Championship. Expectations were high for the reigning world champions, but they ultimately finished a disappointing 38th in the standings.

ALGS: 2025 Open Viewership Stats

The ALGS: 2025 Open amassed over 4.6 million hours watched across all broadcasts, ranking ninth among all tournaments in the series. It also recorded a peak concurrent viewership of 249,547, the highest for any Apex Legends event in 2025 so far, though notably the lowest peak among all ALGS tournaments featuring a prize pool of $1 million or more.

Unsurprisingly, English was the dominant broadcast language for the ALGS: 2025 Open, generating over half of the tournament’s total watch hours. Japanese ranked second in both viewership and total Hours Watched, a result driven by Japan’s strong representation at the event. With 129 players participating, Japan had the second-largest player base, trailing only the United States, which had 138.

Streamer Jack ‘’NiceWigg’’ Martin stood out as the leading channel during the ALGS: 2025 Open, topping the charts in total hours watched, average viewership, and peak concurrent viewers. In all three metrics, he more than doubled the performance of the game's official Twitch channel.

Viewership for the ALGS: 2025 Open might have reached even greater heights had ImperialHal, one of Apex Legends' most popular community casters, been streaming. But this time, fans had to watch him compete rather than cast, as he was in the tournament himself.

The exact dates for the ALGS: 2025 Midseason Playoffs have yet to be announced. What is confirmed, however, is that 40 teams will battle for a $1,000,000 prize pool. For full coverage of Apex Legends and other top esports events, head over to the Esports Charts coverage section.
