Jame crashes at 11-11 in Virtus.pro’s final game of the Copenhagen Major
At the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, Dzhami "Jame" Ali and his team Virtus.pro qualified for the event through the European RMR A. His team was on track to qualify for playoffs after winning two games in the elimination stage, but technical issues were not on their side.
For Virtus.pro’s last game of the Elimination Stage, they had their final chance to qualify for the playoffs stage against G2 Esports. Map 1 finished with Virtus.pro in the lead after an overtime 16-14 victory, and in the late stages of Map 2, Inferno, Virtus.pro managed to plant the bomb in a 4v4 situation with the scoreline at 11-11. With match point on the line, this could be the turning point in the match.
Cheers turned to dismay for VP fans when Jame’s computer crashed, and his character walked out into the open with the bomb ticking down. Ultimately, G2 Esports capitalized on their opportunity, taking Jame down and then the rest of his team. After winning Inferno 13-11, G2 Esports won the final map 16-3, eliminating VP from the Major. The glitch was one of the most-discussed moments of the Major, and the Twitch Clip has been viewed almost 300,000 times.
A fan opens a knife at IEM Cologne 2024
Not all of our highlights here reflect in-game clutches or big plays. Esports, similar to regular sports, is about community as much as it is about competition. Cologne is one of esports’ capital cities; the historic German city has hosted some of the most popular IEM events in Counter-Strike, and many fans have dubbed the LANXESS Arena in Cologne the “Cathedral of Counter-Strike”.
At IEM Cologne 2024, a fan was caught on camera opening a case for the entertainment of the arena and live broadcast. Casters and fans were not expecting one thing, for the lucky case opener to receive a knife. The fan opened an Ursus Doppler knife, which is sold on the market for $400 upwards.
Donk clutches a 1v5 against HEROIC at the Shanghai Major
In the fourth round of the elimination stage at the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, Team Spirit faced HEROIC, with the winner of the match qualifying for the playoffs. After winning the first map of the match in overtime, Team Spirit struggled to convert the second map and watched HEROIC take the lead on Mirage. As HEROIC stood at map point, Danil "donk" Kryshkovets managed to secure a wild 1v5 clutch to keep Team Spirit in the running.
Donk’s strong performances at the Major were just one of the reasons behind Team Spirit’s success. Since the move from Global Offensive to Counter-Strike 2, the Russian team has been one of the strongest in the world, although their results have not been consistent throughout the entire year. With their first Major title in hand, Team Spirit have solidified their place as one of the top teams of the new Counter-Strike 2 esports ecosystem.
Valorant
Kyedae reacts to TenZ’s victory at Valorant Masters Madrid 2024
Kyedae Alisha Shymko, known mononymously as Kyedae, is a Japanese-Canadian streamer and content creator who is engaged to former professional Valorant player Tyson "TenZ" Ngo. In Valorant, Kyedae has built up a reputation for herself as a general streamer, and also a co-caster for esports events. Although her partner was one of Valorant’s most popular professionals, she was building up a comparable reputation of her own through her streaming.
At the VCT 2024 Masters Madrid event, Kyedae attended the event in-person to co-cast and commentate games from the arena itself. TenZ’s team, Sentinels, surprised many at the Madrid event with their strong form and dominance. The American organization was one of the strongest teams of the group stage, defeating some top competitors from EMEA, and moving into the playoffs, hopes were high for the team.
Sentinels managed to defeat their Brazilian adversaries LOUD and Paper Rex to secure a place in the Grand Final. They had to face Gen.G, the only team to have defeated them at the tournament so far. Ultimately, Sentinels were able to secure a 3-2 victory over Gen.G and their first international VCT title in years. Kyedae wore her heart on her sleeve as Sentinels defeated Gen.G, breaking down into tears as her partner claimed another international title.
G2 Esports try out a new eco round strategy at Champions 2024
At the VCT Champions 2024, Valorant experimented with its newest map, Abyss, on the international stage. The key difference between this map and many other Valorant maps is how easy it is to jump off. G2 Esports exploited this opportunity in a way that some fans felt was not in the spirit of competition.
In their first match of playoffs at the year-end event, G2 Esports were matched against Leviatán, one of the strongest teams at the event and a favourite from the Americas to claim the world championship title. After losing Map 1, G2 Esports ended up losing 4-9 on the second map and had no cash to buy weapons. G2 Esports made the tough call to all jump off the map as the round began, extending Leviátan’s lead to 10-4.
G2 Esports’ strategy avoided giving Leviátan both money and Ultimate Orbs for killing them, something people have long discussed if it would be viable, but G2 were the first to work up the courage to try it. In the end, G2 were defeated by the American squad and subsequently eliminated by Fnatic. Although G2 could not advance further into playoffs, their group-suicide strategy against Leviatán was one of the most memorable moments of the tournament for American fans.

After advancing to the finals of the Champions event, EDG were up for a tough fight against one of the event’s favourites, Team Heretics. After four maps of hard competition, the Bo5 match entered its final map, Abyss.
Leading 11-9, Kang Kang secured a highlight 4K to bring his team to match point, and ultimately, win the Champions event in the following round. With Kang Kang as a driving force of the team, EDG became the first-ever Chinese team to win a Valorant Champions event, and the only Chinese team to win a VCT event besides FunPlus Phoenix’s Masters victory in 2022.

T1 Keria secures a Quadra Kill in the LCK Spring 2024 finals
In League of Legends, the LCK is the premiere regional circuit and T1 is its most popular team and at LCK Spring 2024, two of the region’s most popular and historical organizations, Gen.G Esports and T1, qualified for the season’s Grand Final.
In the first map of the finals, Gen.G and T1 were engaged in a late-game fight around the dragon, when Gen.G began picking off some T1 members. T1 were left with only Ryu "Keria" Min-seok and Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok alive, with the casters of the match announcing this would be Gen.G’s final push to win the map. With Faker jumping in to deal some final damage, Keria managed a rapid Quadra Kill to shut Gen.G down, and keep T1’s hope alive.
Ultimately, Gen.G still won the first map of the finals, and claimed the seasonal victory with a 3-2 scoreline. Nevertheless, Keria’s play was one of the most memorable moments of the LCK this year, and the Twitch Clip has been watched almost 150,000 times.
T1 Faker turns around a 3v5 team fight in the final game of Worlds 2024
Moving from the LCK to Worlds 2024, Faker managed his own highlight play in the final game of the entire world championship. In the Grand Finals, T1 faced off against the top Chinese team, Bilibili Gaming. Almost 30 minutes into the final map of the game, the score was tied 2-2, and Bilibili picked off two T1 members, and started chasing the remaining T1 players down.
Faced with a 3v5, Faker managed to find a perfect timing to jump into the middle of the bunched up Chinese team and set his teammates up to team wipe Bilibili Gaming. This was the beginning of the end of the Chinese roster, as T1 secured the World Championship only four minutes later. Faker is League of Legends’ most popular player, and playing for League of Legends’ most popular team, this was of course going to become the most popular esports highlight for the title this year.
Faker and T1’s 3v5 teamfight Clip has been watched almost 200,000 times, especially impressive considering Twitch is no longer active in South Korea, the strongest demographic of fans for Faker and T1.

Not only was the flank play something that many MLBB fans had never seen before at the highest professional level, but the fact that it eliminated MV from the event helped the story reach even higher levels of virality.

Aurora Gaming were quickly dismantled by HEROIC in the first map, but the Serbian organization had only been riled up. The dominant first map by HEROIC was followed by two solid performances by Aurora, who confidently bested their competitor on the remaining maps of the series. The Polish professional secured both a rampage and a beyond godlike, the former of which refers to five kills in quick succession, and the latter refers to a 10+ killstreak. SK Gaming miss an open goal in the Brawl Stars World Finals 2024

At the 2024 world finals, one of the most popular highlights came from Elevate’s game against SK Gaming. The match was one of the first opening games of the event, and SK Gaming seemed a little rusty. After team wiping Elevate in the football-style gamemode, one of SK Gaming’s players missed an open goal, which would have been the equalizer for the match. Despite this, SK Gaming managed to defeat Elevate 2-1, and they advanced to the Semifinals where they were eventually defeated by the ultimate event champions, HMBLE.
Brawl Stars has flown under the radar for a few years, but throughout 2024, the game enjoyed both high viewership for its esports events as well as their content on YouTube, such as the Brawl Talk series hosted by the game’s developers to stay in touch with their community.
