Call of Duty League 2023: Resurgence results — growth of interest in Warzone tournaments
Call of Duty League 2023: Resurgence, a pre-season event, which the CDL organizers held before the start of the regular stage, ended on October 16. Thirty two teams competed for the prize pool of $100K in Warzone Battle Royale, playing in trios.
Call of Duty League 2023: Resurgence featured both professional players and streamers who broadcast the games on their channels. Among them were Aydan, Nadia, ZLaner and others. The event was also followed by Swagg, one of the most popular Call of Duty streamers. Team Envailed, represented by the streamer envailed_and his two friends Sage and clamp, won the tournament. Together they earned $30K.
Viewership Statistics
Call of Duty League 2023: Resurgence matches accumulated more than 544K Hours Watched. Broadcasts of the event drew 57.7K Average Viewers and 87K Peak Viewers. Most of the viewers watched the matches in English — 82.6% of the total HW number. The share of broadcasts in French was 7%. Spanish and Italian streams accounted for another 3%.
Twitch became the main platform, accounting for almost 80% of the HW total. YouTube accounted for 14%, while Facebook accounted for the remaining share. The callofduty official channel became the most popular streaming channel of the event. Aydan and Swagg attracted the largest audience among the community-casters.
Comparison with the Previous Season
We should remind you that there was also a similar tournament in the middle of last season, called Call of Duty League 2022 Resurgence. That time 20 teams also played for $100K. The win went to the Los Angeles Guerrillas players.
If we compare key metrics, we see that the recent Resurgence surpassed the previous tournament by all viewership metrics. The AV and PV numbers increased by 2.5 times, and the HW number increased by 3.2 times.
Based on the growth in key metrics, the practice of hosting preseason show-tournaments works out well. Another big plus is that the organizers allow teams from the qualifiers to participate in the tournament. The popularity of the Resurgence stage shows that there is a growing demand from viewers for a full-fledged Warzone esports system. This is something that organizers and clubs should pay attention to.
