Game publisher Activision has recently announced the return of its Call of Duty Mobile World Championship in 2022. The tournament, which is set to kick off on March 31st, will feature a sizable $2 million shared prize pool, making it the biggest Call of Duty Mobile esports event to date.
Activision revealed the format and details for the upcoming CoD Mobile World Championship 2022, including a roadmap to the event. This year’s version will feature the five-stage format similar to last year’s competition. The circuit will run throughout the whole year, starting with the solo play stage and advancing through team play to regional qualifiers, regional playoffs and ultimately the offline finals, set to take place in December.
The publisher also noted that the event will be open to players of all skill levels, who will be able to climb the ranks towards the grand final.

The CoD Mobile World Championship was first introduced in 2020 after the game’s global release, however, the event has yet to see a proper global final. While the 2020’s LAN finals were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, last year’s tournament was split into East and West regions, resulting in no global final.
Even though CoD Mobile esports has grown visibly since its launch two years ago, the problems it faced during its initial seasons has directly affected its viewership. Last year’s regional finals for West attracted 12K Average Viewers, while the final for East was watched by 10.17K Average Viewers — numbers considerably lower than viewership results of the majority of currently active official esports circuits.
Moreover, with the peak of 56K concurrent viewers, the Asian qualifier for the World Championship 2021 proved to be more successful than the two regional finals, indicating higher popularity of the title in the Asian region.

While the CoD Mobile community is undoubtedly excited for a new season of the Call of Duty Mobile World Championship, it still needs to wait until the end of the year to see a global CoD Mobile event take place for the first time in the game’s history. Nevertheless, the 2022 season is going to be a test of the discipline’s popularity.
