Ukraine's B8 clinches big win at CCT Season 2 European Series #2

May 15, 2024 4 min read

The CCT Season 2 European Series #2 was held from April 29 to May 12 among 24 teams as an online affair. With ongoing preparations for the CCT Season 1 Global Finals, which will wrap up the circuit's inaugural run that began back in 2022, fan interest was not high for the second event in the Europe region.

After around two weeks of action, B8 defeated BetBoom Team 2:1 in the Grand Final to emerge as the champion and grab perhaps its biggest-ever win. With points counted for teams based on their performances in each series for the now combined Europe region, finishing near the top of the podium helps these organizations take one step closer to the global final in 2025.

Readers must note that the CCT Season 1 Global Finals will be held from May 16 to May 25 and involve 16 teams, including 11 who have fought their way across the various Studio and Online Finals circuits and five invited sides. A prize pool of $50,000 will be on the line, with the list of participants including prominent organizations like AstralisFnaticENCE, and Team Liquid.

The CCT Season 2 European Series #2 hit 10.6K Peak Viewers during the Playoffs Semifinals between 9Pandas and BetBoom Team, which the latter won 2:0. Interestingly, the summit clash was only the third-most popular game, with the unfancied B8's topsy-turvy run leading up to this game perhaps giving fans a sense that favorites BetBoom, coming off a playoff run at the ESL Pro League, would add another tournament victory to its kitty.

However, the Ukrainian esports org founded by Dendi had other plans, and, led by headtr1ck, it eventually emerged on top after three hard-fought maps. These teams' good displays also helped this Counter-Strike competition notch 288.3K Hours Watched and 1.9 Average Viewers over an airtime of 145 hours.

Readers must note that this is B8's first win since swapping r1nkle for headtr1ck with Ninjas in Pyjamas and replacing OWNER with baz. On-loan NAVI player npl also contributed handsomely to this achievement, finishing as the third-highest-rated pro after Patsi and r3salt.

We must also acknowledge the following that KOI enjoys despite CS2 not being its most successful game so far. The Spanish side owned by Twitch megastar ibai may only have finished mid-table in both the series held so far in the new season but it continues to finish near the top when it comes to popularity by average online viewers.

Coming to comparisons, the CCT Season 2 European Series #2 had lesser stats across the board compared to the first event of the 2024-2025 circuit. Apart from increased Russian interest in the first series thanks to the country's teams' success, the presence of streamers like xhocii helped bring in more viewers.

Unfortunately, the Twitch content creator did not live broadcast the second series in the Champion of Champions Tour’s latest calendar due to his team, Guild Eagles, not participating. That led to a reduction in the number of English-language viewers, which also affected the overall dynamics of the competition's viewership figures.

The Play-In stage of the next series in this CS2 circuit has already begun, with the action going on till May 26. It remains to be seen which teams maintain their consistency and take a step closer to the end-of-season global final that will happen sometime next year.
