Clash Royale League 2023 Season 1 gets season off to a bright start
The Clash Royale League is back, and it’s better than ever, as developer Supercell has combined the best of the 2021 and 2022 CRL formats to make a perfect combination. Season 1, held from March 12 to March 19, got the 2023 season off to a great start as it outdid its predecessor’s numbers, with Egypt's Mohamed Light punching his ticket to the Clash Royale League 2023 World Finals and pocketing $16,000 of the total prize money of $57,000.
The Clash Royale League 2023 will see seven monthly competitions played in-game via the Tournament hub throughout the year, with the winners gaining Golden Tickets that mean automatic entry into the World Finals. Seven more slots for the season-ending mega event will be filled by those who show the most consistency and gain the most Competitive Points over these seven monthly competitions.
At the end of it all, the 14 qualified players will be joined by two gamers from China to form a pool of 16 pros who will battle it out for the ultimate honor of being the world champion. The Clash Royale League 2023 World Finals will be held from November 24 to 26.
Esports Charts brings all the numbers that show how well the Clash Royale League 2023 did in terms of viewership numbers and how it stacks up against other 2023 events from Supercell.
Season 1 gets Clash Royale League 2023 off to a solid start

When comparing tournaments held by Supercell this year, the Clash Royale League 2023 Season 1 was the second-best, doing 34K Peak Viewers, fairly behind the Brawl Stars Championship 2023: February EMEA Monthly Finals, which notched 54K PV thanks to the participation of popular teams like Navi, team Queso, and ZETA Division. It also did a not-too-shabby 16K Average Viewers.

The Clash Royale League 2023 Season 1 claimed third place with 133K Hours Watched, trailing the Brawl Stars Championship 2023: February EMEA Monthly Finals (212K) and the Clash of Clans Worlds Warmup 2023 (169K). These are two strong markets for Brawl Stars esports, so higher viewership numbers should be expected, although the CRL 2023 will have chances to overtake them in future seasons.
The Clash Royale League 2023 Season 1 also did better than its predecessor, the Clash Royale League 2022, excluding stats for the Grand Finals of the latter. Last year’s competition did 126K HW, 22K PV, and 10K AV, meaning the new format got off to the right start as these numbers were a 10%, 154%, and 160% rise this year.

It has to be remembered that the formats for the two competitions are different, with the 2022 league consisting of eight major Golden Ticket competitions that guaranteed the winners direct entries into the CRL World Finals. The other eight participants at the end-of-the-season extravaganza came from the six-week in-game CRL event consisting of special challenges and tournaments.
Overall, the Clash Royale League 2023's start received a positive response from fans from all around the world. With the new format making it more exciting to see who makes the cut for the World Finals, viewership numbers are bound to take a hike over the next few months of action.
