Feb 16, 2022 4 min read

After the cancellation of the first Major of the DPC 2021-2022 Season, the Winter Tour of the Dota Pro Circuit concluded with a series of Regional Finals instead. While three regional events are yet to take place, the South American, Southeast Asian and Western European finals run throughout last weekend, each featuring four teams and a $100,000 prize pool.

The viewership of each regional tournament varied based on Dota 2's popularity in each respective region, with the biggest audience tuning in to the Western European event. To get a deeper insight into the current popularity of DPC, Esports Charts reviewed viewership statistics of the first three events of the Dota Pro Circuit Winter Tour Regional Finals.

DPC WEU 2021/22 Tour 1 Regional Finals

Full of strong performances, the DPC WEU Regional Final ended up with a victory of a new team in the circuit — Gladiators. Formerly known as Team Tickles, the international squad joined the DPC in November 2021 and was picked up by a sponsor and rebranded only three days before the start of the competition.

Although Gladiators had to fight their way to the grand final from the lower bracket after the defeat from Team Liquid, they managed to return and avenge the earlier defeat, beating Team Liquid 3-1 and taking their first DPC title. The grand final match saw the highest viewership peak during the event — over 141K concurrent viewers spectated the final battle.

In 20 hours of Air Time, the WEU Regional Final generated 1.69M Hours Watched, attracting 86.4K Average Viewers. Compared to its regular season, the viewership of the DPC’s Western European division went down by 12%

The popularity of participating teams was fairly balanced, with OG being the most popular (98.67K Average Viewers), followed by Team Liquid (97.54K AV), Tundra Esports (96.51K AV) and Gladiators (89.31K AV).

The tournament generated 1.46M Hours Watched and concluded with a thrilling match between BOOM Esports and T1, which attracted over 125.4M Peak Viewers. In the end, the Indonesian BOOM closed out the DPC Winter Tour with a 3-1 win over its Korean opponent.

As one of the few teams that didn’t revamp its roster before the start of the season, beastcoast dominated the SA regional final, losing only one map. The Peruvian team secured its victory by sweeping Infamous 3-0 in the grand final match, which was watched by 55.55K Peak Viewers
