DreamLeague Season 22 becomes the most watched event in the series
DreamLeague Season 22, where the world's best Dota 2 teams competed for a million dollars, has come to an end. The online tournament garnered record watch time in the history of the series and became the second-highest by peak viewership for Dota 2 esports events in 2024 so far.
Sixteen teams participated in DreamLeague Season 22: the top four teams from the EPT Leaderboard, as well as the winners of regional qualifications. The tournament featured all the strongest teams in the world, including Team Spirit, the champions of The International 2023.
The group stage of DreamLeague Season 22 was notable for the unexpectedly poor performance of top Western European teams. For example, Team Liquid, Team Secret, and Tundra Esports failed to even advance past the first group stage, winning only one series combined. After the second group stage, OG and Gaimin Gladiators were also eliminated from the tournament. As a result, no Western European team made it to the playoffs, a rare occurrence for the most competitive region of Dota 2.
Xtreme Gaming, Team Spirit, BetBoom Team, and Team Falcons progressed to the final stage of DreamLeague Season 22. It was the latter that became the tournament champion: in the grand final, they defeated BetBoom Team with a score of 3:0 and earned $300.000. This marks the second major victory for Team Falcons since the formation of the lineup in November 2023. Last month, the team became the champion of BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024, where they earned $400.000.
DreamLeague Season 22 Viewership Results

DreamLeague Season 22 matches generated 25.7M Hours Watched, this is the best performance in the series' history. Compared to the previous season, the numbers doubled, but it's worth considering that the league was played in a more compact format back then. Comparing Season 22 to Season 20, where the formats were identical, it can be noted that the increase in viewership hours is precisely related to the growth in the average number of viewers.
The average viewership for DreamLeague Season 22 was 155K concurrent viewers. Compared to the previous tournament, this figure remained almost unchanged, although the broadcast time for these seasons differed by almost half. The most popular match of DreamLeague Season 22 was the final series between Team Falcons and BetBoom Team. It attracted 310.2K peak viewers, which is 20% less than the most popular match in DreamLeague Season 21.

DreamLeague Season 22 became the fifth tournament in the series' history in terms of peak viewership. The leader remains DreamLeague Season 13: The Leipzig Major, which was watched by 473.5K people simultaneously. Looking at the past three years, Season 22 showed the second-best result after Season 21. Outside of the DreamLeague series, Season 22 currently ranks as the second most popular Dota 2 tournament in 2024 — only surpassed by the recently concluded BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024.
The next tournament, DreamLeague Season 23, will take place from May 20th to 26th online. There, 12 teams will compete for a million-dollar prize pool. The invited teams for the tournament already include BetBoom Team, Xtreme Gaming, Gaimin Gladiators, and Team Falcons. The remaining participants will be determined through regional qualifiers.
