Four years later a big Dota 2 event is back in Malaysia. The last time the LAN event took place in the country was in 2018, and it was ESL One Genting 2018. Now a Dota 2 competition is back in Malaysia with ESL One Malaysia 2022 bringing some of the strongest teams in the world to battle each other for a prize pool of $400K.
Six of the twelve teams that are attending the event were invited, with these teams being, Fnatic, OG, Alliance, Team Liquid, Team Secret, and Nigma Galaxy. The remaining teams needed to play online regional qualifiers, with the winner of those five qualifiers, and in the case of Southeast Asia also the second place finisher, winning a ticket to ESL One Malaysia.
The teams that qualified by the closed qualifiers were Entity, Team Aster, BOOM Esports, Talon Esports, TSM FTX, and Thunder Awaken.

ESL One Malaysia 2022 qualifiers viewership statistics

The Europe/CIS closed qualifier was the one that presented the best numbers, with 1 million Hours Watched, Average Viewers of 43K, and Peak Viewers reaching 86K. In a close second, we have Southeast Asia closed qualifier which also pulled some good numbers. With less air time, the event had 42K Average Viewers, 75K Peak Viewers, and when it comes to Hours Watched it had 820K.
However, while South America and North America closed qualifiers pulled similar results to each other, and had a decent Average Viewership, Peak Viewers, and Hours Watched were somewhat comparable to the Europe/CIS and Southeast Asia closed qualifiers, the China closed qualifier numbers weren't anywhere close.
Overall, the closed qualifiers had some good viewership statistics, and despite none of them having insane Peak Viewers, most of them had a solid number of Peak Viewers, with only the China closed qualifiers having a very low number of just 20K Peak Viewers.
Viewership numbers of the last ESL Dota 2 LAN events organized in Malaysia

It's been four years since the last time ESL organized a tournament in Malaysia, and the last time they did they were able to pull off so good numbers. Bare in mind that non of these tournaments make it to the top ten list of ESL Dota 2 tournaments, in regards to Average Viewers, Peak Viewers, or Hours Watched.
However, they have lower Airtime than most Dota 2 tournaments ESL organizes, and with ESL One Genting 2018, the last edition of the tournament, having 3.8 million Hours Watched, 225K Peak Viewers, and 83K Average Viewers, it's safe to say the event will have good viewership numbers.
We will also see some fan favorite teams such as OG and TSM FTX, who were the top two teams in Hours Watched and Average Viewers, at ESL One Stockholm Major 2022, one of the biggest tournaments of the year, and the eight biggest Dota 2 tournament of all time. The presence of those teams will for sure help ESL One Malaysia 2022 in regards to viewership.
