ESL Pro League Season 19 sets series' record for Day 1 viewership
ESL Pro League returned for its 19th season on April 23, bringing some of the world’s best teams to the InterContinental in Malta. This season has $750K up for grabs, and many of the world’s leading Counter-Strike teams are in attendance to get their practice in, and compete for wins.
ESL Pro League Season 19 started strong as the first foray for ESL’s Pro League into 2024, and whether it is hype remaining from the Major, or overall growth for ESL, this has been their most successful start to a Pro League ever.
ESL Pro League Season 19 Day 1 Viewership Statistics

In total, the first day of Season 19 alone brought in 1.44M Hours Watched. For reference, Season 16 of Pro League, which is the most-watched ever with 38.24M Hours Watched, could only barely generate 1M HW on its first day. ESL’s first step into 2024 with their Pro League has been their most successful yet, as fans are eager to watch their favourite CS teams compete.
Viewership reached its peak at 231.7K Peak Viewers, which was reached early during the day. Due to the immense number of teams invited to the event, the tournament recorded its peak viewership while four separate matches were ongoing, spanning 2 different groups of teams. Below, we will explore which of these individual matches generated the highest viewership.

The match between Astralis and Eternal Fire was the first day’s most popular match, having recorded 194.6K Peak Viewers for the game. Astralis are a long-standing name in Counter-Strike, but they failed to qualify for the recent 2024 Major; compare this to Eternal Fire, who managed to grab 5th-8th place at the Major despite coming in as an underdog.
Fans were excited to see if Eternal Fire’s performance was a one-off, and if Astralis can manage to recover from the slow start to the year. Ultimately, Astralis took home a 2:0 victory to start their Pro League endeavors in 2024, and the most popular match of the day.
Fnatic’s match against Virtus.pro was the second-most popular match, with 178K Peak Viewers recorded. The match was a nailbiter all the way to the end, finishing 13:11 on Map 3 in favour of Fnatic. FaZe Clan’s game against Imperial Esports also received significant viewership, largely thanks to Portuguese-speaking audiences.
Gaules was the most popular broadcaster of the first day, and he received 58.6K Peak Viewers for the game with the Brazilian squad. Despite Gaules’ support, Imperial Esports fell 0:2 against FaZe Clan, who are the current Major runner-ups.

As mentioned, the recent first day of Season 19 for the ESL Pro League was the most-watched iteration of the event ever. It was not the most popular day, meaning in terms of concurrent viewers, but a boost to Airtime helped the league to ensure high watch time.
Compared to Season 18, the recent season recorded a first-day watch time increase of 51.4%, and increased its average concurrent viewership by 17%. Although the season did record a Peak Viewers figure slightly lower than the previous season’s, all other metrics show growth for the ESL Pro League.
Season 19 of ESL’s Pro League was their first step into Counter-Strike 2 with this event series. If viewership for the remainder of the league remains high, ESL may become an even bigger part of the Counter-Strike scene than they currently are.
