Over the weekend, two of the most followed mobile esports events came to a close at the Esports World Cup. This article will concentrate on the happenings around Free Fire, whose tournament ended as one of the game's most popular ones since 2022 and saw Southeast Asia reclaim its crown as the dominant global force thanks to a Thai team's win.

The Esports World Cup 2024 for Free Fire saw Team Falcons top the Grand Finals leaderboard to claim victory. Having started this phase with just one point after the Points Rush stage, it ended the only side to pass the 100-point and 60-kill barriers, thanks to a joint-top two Winner Winner Chicken Dinners across the six rounds.

This was also Team Falcons' second win at the EWC 2024 after clinching the Esports World Cup 2024 for CoD: Warzone title. The Thai side also qualified for the Free Fire World Series - Global Finals 2024, claiming 1,000 points as part of the Club Championship Standings

This means the esports organization has consolidated its lead atop the table with 2600 points, maintaining its status as the frontrunner for the $7 million prize. It also took home $300,000 out of a total prize pool of $1 million, with runner-up EVOS Divine pocketing $175,000 and 600 Club points.

The Esports World Cup 2024 for Free Fire recorded 471.4K Peak Viewers during Round 2 of the Grand Finals. Popular Brazilian side Fluxo, who would finish a disappointing ninth, won the round to signal hopes of the country clinching yet another international title after Magic Squad's win at the Free Fire World Series 2023, but it was not to be.

Interestingly, another less-heralded team from this South American nation, Miners.gg, ended as its most successful, finishing third. It was the other participant to claim two wins in the six-round Grand Finals, helping claim its best finish at a Tier-1 competition and hopefully leading to the rise of another strong roster from a region known to love Free Fire and provide some of the game's best sides.

Nevertheless, the fact that all four Brazilian sides made the Grand Finals played a big part in this Free Fire tournament notching 3.8M Hours Watched and 206.7K Average Viewers over 18.5 hours of airtime. This was also why Portuguese ended as the top language by watch time and peak concurrent viewership, helping it contribute over 43% to its overall watch time.

Something to dwell on is the fact that despite having just one representative, P Esports, who did reach the Grand Finals and ended in tenth, Vietnamese was the third most watched and popular language. It is further proof that despite not always proving to have the best teams on a global level, fans in the Southeast Asian nation love the game and are always willing to catch the live action irrespective of how well their teams perform.

Additionally, it can be said that this event could have reached a higher audience number but failed for a few reasons. If comparisons were made to the Sentosa tournament, languages like Hindi and Spanish have seen a downfall in figures for reasons like rival games doing well in their regions and the game getting banned in India for some time.

Moreover, live streaming on the Booyah! app was a big part of the Free Fire experience in 2022, which is not the case anymore. Also, with broadcasting norms moving towards big names like YouTube and TikTok, platforms like Facebook, which used to play a big part in bringing in viewers, especially from Asia, have seen a drop in usage.

When looking at all tournaments in the game since 2022, the Esports World Cup 2024 for Free Fire finishes in third on a PV table. Only the Free Fire World Series 2022 Sentosa and the Free Fire World Series 2023 are ahead in this regard, so it is a pretty good start to life for this cross-event spectacle that will become an annual attraction in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

It has also finished as the third-most-popular event at the Esports World Cup 2024, with only the League of Legends and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang competitions doing better. Of course, there are a lot more games to come, so it remains to be seen where Garena's classic battle royale mobile esports shooter ends up come the end of the entire campaign in the last week of August.

That a Thai and an Indonesian side finished in the top two was also vital as these are two of Free Fire's most vital regions. They also provide some of the game's best sides who have won multiple championships at the international level, so it will be fun to see how the next global event goes, as Brazil will no doubt be chomping at the bit to show that it als belong in this conversation and that last year's win at the season finale was no one-off.
