In 2022, female esports continued to grow rapidly. Many large organizations, including NAVI and Evil Geniuses, have launched female CS:GO and Valorant rosters. Riot Games, ESL, and other companies have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in the development of female esports and hosted many tournaments. At the same time, some of these championships were very popular with the audience, gathering thousands of live viewers. In the new article, Esports Charts summarizes the results of female esports in 2022.

In total, female tournaments generated 23.76M Hours Watched in 2022, which is 1.5x times more than in 2021. 49.2% of the total were generated by Twitch viewers, and the contribution of the YouTube audience was 44%.

The most popular female tournaments took place in Indonesia, where there is a huge number of ML:BB fans. This language segment accounted for 40.6% of total female esports Hours Watched in a year. The top 3 for this indicator also included English-language and Portuguese-language broadcasts, whose contribution to female esports’ Hours Watched was 20.5% and 16.7%, respectively.

The total prize pool of female tournaments in 2022 amounted to $1.7M. The most-watched female event both in 2022 and in the history of Valorant was the VCT 2022 Game Changers Championship. It generated 5.45M Hours Watched, almost 23% of female esports metric for the year. At the same time, the grand final of this championship between G2 Gozen and Shopify Rebellion GC became the most watched match of the year, generating 973K Hours Watched. The top 5 female tournaments of the year by Hours Watched also included three ML:BB events (Women's Invitational, Woman Star League Season 4, Woman Star League Season 5) and one PUBG Mobile event (Valkyrie Battleground - Season 1). They generated 2.1M, 1.68M, 1.45M, and 1.27M Hours Watched, respectively.

The most popular female tournament of the year by Peak Viewers was the ML:BB Women’s Invitational. The grand final of the championship between GPX Basreng and Bigetron Era was watched by 392.4K Peak Viewers, which is also the best result in the history of female esports. Aside from the VCT 2022 Game Changers Championship and Woman Star League Season 4 mentioned above, the top 5 for this indicator also included ESL Impact League Season 1 (CS:GO) and Mobile Legends Upoint Esports Invitational Season 2.

The most popular female esports disciplines are Valorant, ML:BB, PUBG Mobile, and CS:GO. Tournaments based on these games generated 45.8%, 30.6%, 9.7%, and 8.2% of the total Hours Watched in female esports for the year, respectively. At the same time, Garena Free Fire is also in the top 5, and League of Legends is ranked sixth - their contribution to the Hours Watched of female events in 2022 was 2.1% and 1%, respectively. Note that tournaments among girls are held in many other disciplines, but are not always broadcast.

When compiling the ranking of the most popular female esports teams, the statistics of battle royales tournaments were not taken into account.

Shopify Rebellion became the most popular esports organization in 2022 among clubs with female squads. Its Valorant team has generated over 3M Hours Watched, which makes up over 68% of the organization's total for the year. Ranked second is GPX Basreng with its female ML:BB roster, which generated more than 2.7M Hours Watched in 2022 (43.7% of the organization's total).

The top 4 also included G2 Esports, Team Liquid, whose female Valorant rosters generated 2.46M and 2.21M Hours Watched, respectively, over the year. Ranked fifth is Bigetron Esports with a female ML:BB roster, which generated more than 2M Hours Watched in a year. In addition, this team played in the most popular match of the year, watched by 392.4K viewers. Also worth noting is FENNEL, whose female Valorant roster generated 1.43M Hours Watched in a year, accounting for 77.4% of the organization's total.
