Free Fire World Series - Southeast Asia Spring 2024 becomes series' most popular non-global event

Free Fire World Series - Southeast Asia Spring 2024, which began more than two months earlier in Vietnam, came to a close on May 26. With so much action for fans, it entered the all-time top ten list of most-watched events in the game and finished second by watch time within the Free Fire World Series.

The competition saw Team Falcons emerge as its inaugural champion. It was a pretty comfortable win as well, beating the second-placed side — P Esports — by 25 points, which included two wins from six rounds in the Grand Finals.

However, that was not the record for this stage, with EVOS Divine clinching three victories. Only three sides emerged with Winner Winner Chicken Dinners in the Grand Finals, with the other win going to the tournament runner-up.

Interestingly, despite three wins, EVOS Divine could only finish fourth, with Buriram United Esports completing the podium places despite a best finish of third in the Grand Finals. This reiterated the importance of consistency throughout such battle royale tournaments, with the number of kill points proving as important if not more, than the placement on the table at the end of each round.

Free Fire World Series - Southeast Asia Spring 2024 recorded 310.1K Peak Viewers during Round 1 of the Grand Finals. EVOS Divine, who put up mediocre displays in the Knockout Stage and Point Rush rounds, came out on top in this game to raise hopes of a come-from-behind win.

However, that was not to be the case despite two more wins, with Team Falcons's victory handing it $100K out of a total prize pool of $300K. The top eight were supposed to seal their spots at the upcoming Esports World Cup 2024, but a ninth side also progressed thanks to Reverse Red's triumph at the ESL Snapdragon Pro Series 2024: Masters Season.

It also ended as the most popular entry in the series barring global competitions, although that is because regional FFWS leagues were only introduced this year. A big reason for this success was the performance of the most followed sides from Southeast Asia, one of the game's strongest markets. The top five are amongst the most popular in the region, and their presence till the end of the event helped pull in a lot more viewers.

A return to the FFWS model for this esports season has paid off for Garena, with this event ending as one of the most successful regional leagues ever. It also continued the good work done at the Free Fire World Series 2023, the discipline's most popular competition of the last year, after a slow of changes introduced for the season.

Whether Free Fire can maintain this momentum throughout 2024 remains to be seen; if major regions like Brazil and SEA chime in, there is a shout for things going well.
