Garena Challenger Series reached best peak viewership for Spring splits since 2020

The Garena Challenger Series Spring 2024 was held from March 2 to May 4 at the Garena E-Sports Stadium and the Taiwan National University in Taipei, Taiwan. The $145,625 prize pool event put up the GCS series best peak viewership figures for Spring splits since 2020, continuing the upturn in numbers seen at the last split.

This Arena of Valor competition saw BanMei Gaming ease past Flash Wolves 4:0 in the Grand Final to take home around $77.5K. The runner-up pocketed about $24.5K, with the top five booking their spots at the prestigious Arena of Valor Premier League 2024, the mid-season major for the 2024 season.

The Garena Challenger Series Spring 2024 registered 56.6K Peak Viewers during the summit clash, almost twice the number of the next-best entry on this list. The tournament winner made four appearances on the five most popular games leaderboard, with the only other sides with multiple entries being Flash Wolves and Deep Cross Gaming.

The champion, despite being in demand when it came to the matches played, was not the most popular side as per average online viewers, an honor that went to a different team. However, their combined efforts did help this Arena of Valor competition record 1.4M Hours Watched and 12.9K Average Viewers over an airtime of 114 hours.

What was good about the Garena Challenger Series Spring 2024 was the momentum it built on from the previous event in the series. The Garena Challenger Series Summer 2023 itself was the most successful in the series in a few years, and although 2024's first split did not match up in terms of numbers, it did reach enough viewers to end as the sixth-most popular one.

One interesting observation is that TikTok, which is pretty famous and well-used in the Asian market, saw its watch time drop from the previous split. For a platform that was building steady momentum as a good alternative to watching live esports when on the go, especially in markets where smartphones are more popular than PCs, it was a big hit.

Circling back to the APL 2024, it will be held from June 12 to July 7 in Bangkok. It will see the introduction of a new format that has never before been used in Arena of Valor's competitive scene, the Swiss format.
