GeoGuessr World Championship 2025 breaks viewership records with waves of community support
What started as a casual geography guessing game has steadily grown into a fully-fledged esports discipline. The GeoGuessr World Championship 2025 brought 16 of the best players from across the globe to the K.B Hallen Arena in Copenhagen, where Radu "Radu" Casapu of Thai Rock Readers cemented himself as the champion of the globe. This third iteration of the Geoguessr World Championship was the most popular edition yet, setting both new watch time and peak viewership records for the esports title.
For 2025, the world championship was significantly expanded with regional Major tournaments hosted in EMEA, Americas and the APAC region. The season also featured a much larger prize pool for the Finals, with over $108,000 up for grabs. On top of these expansions, serious support and coverage from top online creators boosted the 2025 Finals to new heights.
Topping off the Geoguessr World Championship, the ultimate event was hosted from August 29-30 and received more than 1,670,000 Hours Watched during just under 20 hours of broadcasting time: the most watch time ever received for a single GeoGuessr event. This marked a slight increase of 3.7% compared to last year’s world championship, which was over five hours longer than this year’s edition.

Most of the viewership for the tournament came during its final hours, as the final three matches took place on stage. The final match between Radu C and Szabolcs "Debre" Debre was the most popular moment of the tournament, having received 363,415 Peak Viewers (PV). The third-place match between Strefan and Joseph "Leero" Gansemer was also highly popular, even almost matching the hype behind the grand final.
The last games of the tournament received an explosive wave of support from popular internet creators across all of Europe’s top demographics and other international coverage. In the case of demographics such as Spanish or German, industry-leading creators like Juan “IlloJuan” Alberto García and Kevin “Papaplatte” Teller led tens of thousands of viewers to the event from their respective audiences.

The list of creators who supported the world championship is undoubtedly star-studded and features some of the world’s favourite streamers. From Germany’s BastiGHG and France’s Adrien “ZeratoR” Nougaret, to the wide range of North American creators like Ludwig “Ludwig” Ahgren, Saqib “LIRIK” Ali Zahid, Jaryd “summit1g” Lazar, Emily “ExtraEmily” Zhang, and many more.
The diverse range of creators involved with covering the tournament was a key part of setting a new viewership record for GeoGuessr, and breaking the 300,000 PV barrier for the first time ever. GeoGuessr launched itself to become a cultural phenomenon during the past few years, and its esports scene is becoming ever more mainstream and recognised with each edition of the world championship.

With a brand-new record set for GeoGuessr, all eyes are already on the coming year for what the game’s developers have in store next. Following the rapid expansion and growth of the world championship circuit in 2025, the sky is the limit for this previously-niche esports game.
