Poland is once again ready to welcome Counter-Strike fans! From December 29 to February 9, IEM Katowice 2025, the first tournament of the Intel Extreme Masters series for this season, will take place. The event features a $1 million prize pool, with top teams from around the world battling it out for the title. As always, IEM Katowice 2025 will take place at the Spodek Arena, a sports and concert venue that opened in 1971. With a capacity of around 11,500, it’s one of the largest indoor arenas in Europe. Over the years, it’s hosted big names like Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Metallica, The Offspring, Rammstein, The Prodigy, Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, Sting, Tina Turner, Avril Lavigne, and many others. The format for IEM Katowice 2025 will be the same as last year’s tournaments, featuring the Play-In, group, and Playoff stages. The biggest change will be the new map pool: instead of Vertigo, teams will get to play the updated version of Train.

Feb 1 - 4: Group Stage (two double-elimination brackets)

16 teams will battle it out in the Play-In stage, with only half making it to the Group Stage, where they’ll join other teams that got direct invites.
IEM Katowice 2025 Participants:
Group A: G2 Esports, Team Falcons, Team Vitality, FaZe Clan + 4 teams from Play-In.
Group B: Team Spirit, Natus Vincere, MOUZ, The MongolZ + 4 teams from Play-In.
Six teams will advance to the Playoffs — three from each group. The top teams will move straight to the semifinals, while the second and third-place teams from each group will start in the quarterfinals.
IEM Katowice 2025 is sure to capture fans' attention right from the start. Counter-Strike fans will be excited to see how the revamped rosters of MOUZ, FaZe Clan, and Team Falcons perform on the big stage. A standout match will be the Brazilian derby, where FURIA Esports, led by the legendary Gabriel ‘‘FalleN’’ Toledo, will face off against Imperial Female.
Intel Extreme Masters has been held in Katowice for over a decade, with the IEM Katowice Major 2019 standing out as the most popular Counter-Strike event, peaking at 1,205,103 viewers. That year, Astralis took home the trophy, beating ENCE in the final. As for the latest tournament, Team Spirit won IEM Katowice 2024, defeating FaZe Clan 3-0 in the Grand Final.
Counter-Strike is the main game at IEM Katowice, but it's not the only one. Alongside the shooter, there are also annual StarCraft II tournaments with top players from Europe and South Korea.
