How to watch the Six Invitational 2024

Feb 08, 2024 4 min read

The Six Invitational is the year’s most-watched and most prestigious event for Rainbow Six: Siege esports. The 2024 edition of the event is coming soon, kicking off from the Ginásio do Ibirapuera of São Paulo, Brazil, on February 13. The Six Invitational 2024 marks the fourth year in a row of $3M prize pools for Rainbow Six’s premiere event of the year, but viewership for the tournament has been steadily dropping for years.

On February 13, the 20 teams invited from around the globe will compete in 4 Round-Robin groups, with the eventual bottom team of each group eliminated. The remaining 16 teams will advance to the Playoffs on February 19, slowly removing each other from a double-elimination bracket in Bo3 matches, until the Grand Final Bo5 match on February 25.

Teams are invited to the Six Invitational event based on their Global Standings result. This is Rainbow Six Siege’s point-based qualification system, in which teams earn points through various competitions from around the world. Contrary to other mainstream esports disciplines, the Six Invitational has no quota for the amount of teams from one region that will compete; meaning that the national make-up of teams at the event is purely decided by the teams’ results.

Official broadcasts of the Six Invitational 2024

As of now, on February 7, the official English and Brazilian Portuguese broadcasts have had their talent confirmed. Other European and Asian languages have not yet had their talent or line-up for the official broadcasts confirmed.

Immediately striking is the fact that of the 20 teams attending the Six Invitational 2024 in Brazil, four of them are Brazillian teams, and two other teams feature Brazilian players on their roster. This Brazilian representation may be enough for the Six Invitational to escape the downward spiral of declining viewership it has suffered over the past few years.

Generally, viewership for the Six Invitational event has fallen on a year-on-year basis. Although 2021 enjoyed a significant boost in viewership, perhaps thanks to the lockdowns and pandemic, viewership continued to decline again after this anomaly. The Six Invitational 2022 marked a significant drop in viewership across all metrics, and the Six Invitational 2023 continued this trend.

Ubisoft, the developers and publishers of the game, clearly understand the power of the Brazilian community. The official English and Brazilian Portuguese broadcasts are the only ones to have confirmed talent line-ups, and the Brazilian broadcasting team features 18 members.

At last year’s Six Invitational 2023, Portuguese was the only top language to increase its Peak Viewers figure compared to the previous year. With an extensive Brazilian Portuguese broadcasting team ready, 5 fully-fledged Brazilian teams attending, and the event itself being held in Brazil, this year’s Six Invitational 2024 will be all about discovering the potential of the Brazilian audience for Rainbow Six Siege.

If the tournament organisers can effectively tap into this audience, 2024 might be the first year in a long time that the Six Invitational improves on its viewership compared to the previous year.
