2024 World Championship favorites
The main favorites in the tournament are undoubtedly South Korean teams, known for frequently reaching the finals. Hanwha Life Esports, the top team in LCK Summer 2024, will be one to watch. High expectations surround Gen.G, which has already broken the international stage curse by winning MSI 2024, making this an ideal time to secure a World Championship title. T1, the reigning champions from 2023, face many questions, as they are not in peak form and nearly missed this year’s tournament.
Chinese teams also have strong prospects for the title. LPL representatives have won the World Championship three times and are poised to do so again, with Weibo Gaming, last year’s finalist, and Bilibili Gaming, the MSI 2024 finalist, both in contention.
For European teams, merely reaching the playoff bracket would be considered a success. G2 Esports appears to be the only team with actually decent chances for high placement, if none of the favorites eliminate them too early.

Most popular LoL World Championship tournaments
The World Championships for League of Legends consistently break viewer records each year. Currently, the most popular event is the 2023 World Championship, which was watched by over 6.4 million Peak Viewers worldwide (excluding Chinese platforms) simultaneously — a record for all esports tournaments.

Will the 2024 World Championship set a new viewer record? It will be challenging, as a significant portion of the tournament's audience is in South Korea and China, where time zone differences may make it inconvenient to watch some matches. Last year's event achieved fantastic viewer numbers because it took place in South Korea, where the legendary local team T1, led by the iconic Faker, emerged as champions. This year’s numbers are likely to be more modest, but we can still expect peak viewership of over 5 million PV.
