IEM Cologne 2025 sees substantial viewership growth ahead of Playoffs

Jul 30, 2025 3 min read

]The group stage of IEM Cologne 2025 has concluded in Germany, setting the stage for the playoffs. Nearly all tournament favorites advanced to the final phase, while the revamped Team Falcons suffered an early and disappointing exit. Meanwhile, the event continues to impress with strong viewership figures, showing notable growth compared to last year’s edition.

Team Spirit and Team Vitality emerged as the top performers across the Play-In and Group Stages, with both teams comfortably topping their groups. Vitality didn’t drop a single map, even against The MongolZ, whom they recently faced in the Major final. Team Spirit, despite a recent roster change, only stumbled slightly in their decisive match against MOUZ, a tough opponent for them this season, but still secured the win. As a result, both squads head straight into the semifinals of the playoffs.

MOUZ, MongolZ, Natus Vincere, and FURIA Esports also secured playoff spots. FURIA, in particular, impressed with their form: the Brazilian squad began their run back in the Play-In stage and battled through several tough opponents, including Team Falcons, who picked up rising CS talent Maxim "kyousuke" Lukin in June. But despite another big roster move, Falcons once again fell short, exiting the event in what they themselves described as a disappointing 9th–12th place finish.

IEM Cologne 2025 livestream viewership & dynamics compared to 2024 edition

On the viewership front, IEM Cologne 2025 is showing impressive growth. During the Play-In stage, the average audience was up by over a third compared to last year. As a result, the stage outperformed 2024 edition in total watch time, even though it ran several hours shorter.

On top of broader coverage this year (with more channels broadcasting in more languages), the tournament also benefited from compelling storylines. The Play-In stage saw revamped rosters take the stage, including Virtus.pro, who signed former NAVI and Cloud9 player Ilya "Perfecto" Zalutskiy, and FaZe Clan, who reunited with Helvijs "broky" Saukants following the end of Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev’s loan.

The Group Stage saw an even sharper viewership spike, with audience numbers up by more than 66% year-over-year. Both peak viewership and total watch time rose significantly as well, driven by, yet again, expanded coverage and compelling storylines like the debut of the revamped Falcons and the strong run from Brazilian fan favorites FURIA.

Most popular IEM Cologne 2025 matches ahead of playoffs

Nearly 80% of the tournament’s matches surpassed 100,000 peak concurrent viewers, though only three broke the 600,000+ peak concurrent viewers mark. The standout was FURIA vs. Falcons in a Group A elimination showdown, which brought together all three core viewership demographics: English-speaking fans, the Russian-speaking audience, and Brazil’s passionate CS community. The high-stakes drama helped drive the peak to an impressive 761,000 concurrent viewers.

The IEM Cologne 2025 playoffs begin on August 1st, opening with MongolZ vs. NAVI and MOUZ vs. FURIA. There’s little doubt this year’s edition will outperform last year in terms of total viewership, the only question is just how big the gains will be.
