IEM Katowice 2022: Results and Viewership Overview of the Group Stage
IEM Katowice 2022 group stage matches took place from February 17 to February 20, which resulted in the tournament’s six best teams being determined. In the new article, Esports Charts sums up the intermediate results of the event and compares the viewership statistics of the group stage with the same stage of IEM Katowice 2021.
Heroic and NAVI went straight to the IEM Katowice 2022 semi-finals, taking first places in groups A and B. In the quarter-finals, Gambit Esports will have a match with FaZe Clan, and Virtus.pro will clash with G2 Esports. It is interesting that 50% of the playoff participants are Eastern European teams, and the other 50% are Western European teams. It should also be noted that only FaZe Clan made it to the final stage of the tournament among the teams that started from the Play-In.
The IEM Katowice 2022 group stage amassed almost 14.5 million Hours Watched and drew 308.8K Average Viewers. The broadcasts of this stage attracted more than 618.6K Peak Viewers — the decisive games of FaZe vs NAVI and G2 vs Astralis, which were broadcast simultaneously, reached their maximum audience. At the same time, the FaZe Clan vs. NAVI match gathered more than 480K Peak Viewers and became the most popular match of the group stage.

The IEM Katowice group stage viewership statistics increased significantly compared with the previous year's results. The Hours Watched number grew by almost 30%, the number of Average Viewers increased by almost 23%, and the Peak Viewers number grew by 4%. It should be noted that the NAVI match was also the most popular game in the previous year, but then the team's opponent was Team Liquid.
Natus Vincere became the most popular team at the end of the tournament's group stage. Based on the Average Viewers number (275.7K AV), the team surpassed the closest pursuer, FURIA Esports, by 15%. At the same time, four teams (NAVI, FURIA, Team Vitality and G2 Esports) gathered more than 200K Average Viewers. The AV number of FaZe Clan matches was slightly lower, as the team began the performance from the Play-In stage, which the audience did not follow so actively compared with the group one.
We should remind you that the Play-In stage also improved its viewership results. IEM Katowice was one of the top-7 CS:GO tournaments in the previous year, and it seems that in 2022 it may move up several positions in the discipline's year-end event rankings.
The IEM Katowice 2022 playoffs will be held from February 25-27. The grand final will have a $580K prize pool, and the champion will get $400K. Matches of the decisive stage will be hosted by Spodek Arena and can be attended by fans.
