The International 2022 Grand Final peaked at 1.7 million concurrent viewers
The International 2022, Dota 2 World Championship, with a prize pool of $18.8 million ended on October 30 in Singapore. Tundra Esports became the winner of the tournament by defeating Team Secret in the Grand Final with a score of 3:0. Saksa and his teammates earned more than $8.4 million for first place while the second finalist earned $2.4 million.
Tournament Results
Twenty teams from six regions played in The International 2022. First, they competed in the Group Stage, which determined the first eliminated teams and seeding for the Playoffs. It is interesting that both Tundra Esports and Team Secret played in Group B, where they took the top two spots which qualified them for the upper double-elimination bracket.

Tundra Esports first defeated OG on its way to the grand final, then beat Team Aster and defeated Team Secret in the upper bracket finals. Puppey’s team had a more difficult road to the decisive match. After defeating PSG.LGD and Thunder Awaken, the European team lost to Tundra and dropped to the lower bracket. There, Secret defeated Team Liquid to qualify for the Grand Final.
Viewership Statistics

The International 2022 broadcasts accumulated a total of 67.7 million HW. The event saw 563.7K Average Viewers and 1.7 million Peak Viewers. The final match became the most popular game of the tournament. Team Secret became the most watched team of the event by HW.
English and Russian are the most popular languages of broadcast, they accounted for 45.5% and 33.8% of the total HW, respectively. Another 5,4% went to Spanish-language broadcasts, which rounds out the Top 3 by popularity. As for platforms, Twitch remained the leader in terms of audience reach — 70%. YouTube and Facebook accounted for another 21% and 4.9%, respectively.
Speaking about the final day of the tournament, October 30 saw an Average Viewers number of slightly more than 908K people. English-language broadcasts reached 746K PV, while Russian-language broadcasts drew almost 700K PV. More than 110K people followed the final day of the tournament on Dota TV concurrently.
Russian-speaking community casters Nix and NS set records during the Grand Final: they were followed by 206.4K and 114.3K people concurrently. Ukrainian-language broadcasts also set a record for Peak Viewers at the tournament — 44.9K people. In comparison, there were just over a thousand people watching the Ukrainian-language broadcast during the previous The International.
Comparison with Other Tournaments
The International 2022 lagged significantly behind the last two tournaments in the series in terms of audience reach, and came close to The International 2018 by key viewership metrics. Compared to The International 10, the most popular World Championship in the history of the discipline, the HW and PV numbers dropped by 37%, while the AV number dropped by 34%.
