Favorites take it all — LCK Summer 2022 Week 1 Results
On June 15, the League of Legends Korea Regional League Summer Split kicked off, and teams had already played two bo3 matches. In a new article, Esports Charts tells you about LCK Summer 2022 Week 1, how many viewers watched the matches, and how the return of English-language broadcasts to YouTube affected the statistics of the event.
Results
The first week of the LCK Summer 2022 group stage had no surprises. The strongest teams in South Korea — T1, Gen.G Esports, DAMWON Gaming, and DRX — started with two wins each. Brion Esports, Hanwha Life Esports, KT Rolster, and Nongshim RedForce, on the other hand, finished the week with two losses each. Freecs and SANDBOX Gaming were placed in the middle of the standings with 1-1 stats.

Among the teams that finished the week without a single loss, only T1 had some difficulties. Its match against KT Rolster ended 2-1: the Spring Split champions were defeated on the first map, made a comeback on the second one, and struggled yet still managed to win on the third one. Gen.G, DWG, and DRX won on all maps.
Viewership Statistics
The LCK Summer 2022 Week 1 matches totaled over 6.9 million Hours Watched and 216.2K Average Viewers. The event reached 642.8K Peak Viewers during the T1 vs. KT Rolster match.

The leader of the LCK Summer 2022 Week 1 by Average Viewers and Hours Watched is T1, as expected. It should be noted that this team is so popular that it helped both of its matches to rank in the Top 2 by Peak Viewers. Other matches against T1 placed KT Rolster and Nongshim RedForce in the Top 3 of the week by Average Viewers.
Twitch became the most popular platform for broadcasting LCK Summer 2022 Week 1 matches, accounting for over 62% of the total Hours Watched. Despite the return of English-language broadcasts to LCK Global YouTube channel, the Google platform ranks only third by Hours Watched with 13.5% of the total HW. Korean streaming service Afreeca TV ranks second by this metric.
It is worth mentioning that the return of English-language broadcasts helped YouTube to rank second by Peak Viewers. Streams of the tournament on this platform attracted more than 151K PV, which is 34% more than the same metric on Afreeca TV.

LCK Summer 2022 started off poorer than Spring Split Week 1 in every aspect of the viewership statistics. Hours Watched dropped by 24%, Average Viewers decreased by nearly 25%, and Peak Viewers dropped by 5%. At the same time, YouTube-accumulated Hours Watched grew by 6.5%.
***
The viewership results of the LCK Summer 2022 Week 1 are lower than those of Spring Split, despite the return of English-language broadcasts to YouTube. But this is mostly because T1, Gen.G Esports, DAMWON Gaming, and DRX played against underdogs and didn't have a single match against each other. Next week is going to show more, as DWG faces both Gen.G and T1.
The LCK Summer 2022 Week 2 matches take place from June 22 to 26. You can follow the championship viewership stats on the tournament page.
