LCS Spring 2026 crashes to lowest viewership in league history

Jun 15, 2026 5 min read

LCS Spring 2026 peaked at only 183,152 live viewers, according to Esports Charts, setting a new all-time low for North America’s top League of Legends competition. It became the second straight LCS split to miss the 200,000 Peak Viewers mark, while both LCS events held in 2026 now sit at the bottom of the league’s recent audience ranking.

The LCS 2026 Spring drew roughly 2,000 fewer Peak Viewers than the LCS Lock-In 2026, marking the lowest peak audience in league history. Both events also failed to reach 200,000 PV, something no previous LCS competition had done.

In fact, their peak concurrent viewership numbers have been closer to what we see in the LCS Academy League. A couple of splits in the series' hunting ground for future talents came close to reaching 100,000 PV in 2019/2020, and if the franchised LCS circuit continues to lose viewers, it could soon fall to these numbers.

For comparison, LCS Spring 2023 peaked at 271,376 viewers. The league has therefore lost roughly one-third of its peak audience in three years.

The most popular match of the split was the Grand Final between Team Liquid and LYON, which ended in a one-sided 3:0 victory for LYON. Even the championship-deciding series was unable to push the tournament above the peak recorded by the Lock-In earlier this year.

The decline was more pronounced in average viewership. LCS Spring averaged 63,949 viewers, compared with 89,516 during the Lock-In, representing a drop of almost 29%.

Despite setting a domestic low, the LCS was not the least-watched regional competition in the MSI 2026 qualification cycle.

Its peak audience remained above those recorded by the CBLOLLCP and LPL. Among the major regional leagues, however, North America remained far behind the LCK and LEC.

LCS 2026 Spring results

There were a few implications during the latest season in the League Championship Series. The winner and runner-up booked spots at the Mid-Season Invitational 2026, while the first-placed team also clinched the region's sole slot at the Esports World Cup 2026.

LYON beat Team Liquid 3:0 in the Grand Final to become the sixth franchise in LCS history to secure back-to-back crowns.

LYON's triumph was another reminder of why Kacper "Inspired" Słoma is arguably the greatest LCS player in history. It was his fourth title in a row and his seventh championship across just twelve career attempts. Remarkably, he has achieved this with three different organisations: LYON, Evil Geniuses and FlyQuest.

LCS Summer Split details revealed

During the Grand Final, Riot Games revealed fresh details about the next split in the LCS. Scheduled for a July to September run, the LCS 2026 Summer will decide the three North American slots at the Worlds 2026.

The LCS 2026 Summer will begin on July 25 and feature a best-of-three, round-robin regular season. Most matches will be played behind closed doors at the LCS Face Off Studio, with live audiences returning for the opening week and Week 7. The top six teams will then compete in an expanded playoff gauntlet for the title and three places at Worlds 2026, with the season ending at the Gas South Arena near Atlanta on October 3–4.

Riot Games will now look to the Summer Split, its return to best-of-three matches and the live LCS Championship in Atlanta to reverse the trend. After two consecutive events below 200,000 Peak Viewers, however, the league will need more than a format change to prove that its North American audience can begin growing again.

For now, the focus for all League of Legends teams will be the MSI 2026, to be held at the Daejeon Convention Center Ⅱ in Daejeon, South Korea, from June 28 to July 12. It will bring together 11 of the world's best teams as they battle for global glory and a hefty prize purse, which has not yet been officially revealed.
