The first specific details regarding the League of Legends World Championship 2027 (Worlds 2027) have been disclosed following an official announcement by the Korea e-Sports Association (KeSPA). South Korea is set to host the tournament, with a tentative schedule running from October 15 to November 14, 2027. KeSPA has formally opened the bidding process for local municipalities to host the Knockout stage of the competition, which includes the quarterfinals, semifinals and the grand final.

According to the preliminary notice, the proposed format features 18 participating teams and will likely incorporate a Play-In phase followed by a Swiss Stage to determine the playoff contenders. These details remain subject to adjustment as planning with Riot Games progresses throughout 2026.

KeSPA’s venue requirements specify a capacity of 5,000 to 8,000 spectators for the quarterfinals and semifinals, while the championship match requires a stadium capable of holding more than 10,000 attendees. Local authorities have until April 5, 2026, to submit their letters of intent.

Riot Games originally confirmed South Korea as the host nation for the 2027 event during a comprehensive season roadmap reveal in early 2025. Until this recent update from KeSPA, information regarding the tournament was limited to its geographical location. The 2027 championship marks the return of the premier international event to one of the most prominent regions in the global competitive scene.

As for the current professional League of Legends season, the 2026 World Championship will take place across the United States, with Allen, Texas, hosting the Play-In, Swiss Stage, and most Knockout Stage matches, and New York serving as the location for the Finals.

Meanwhile, the season is approaching its first major international milestone: the First Stand 2026 tournament, which is set to begin on March 16, will serve as the inaugural global competition of the year.
