The LEC Spring 2022 has come to an end. G2 Esports won the tournament: the team not just showed great results compared to last season, but also had the best performance in the playoffs' lower bracket in the history of the league, not losing a single map. Despite all the excitement about the tournament, it was far from being the most successful by viewership statistics. Esports Charts sums up the results of the event and tells you how many viewers followed it.

LEC Spring 2022 Results

Last year was a real challenge for G2 Esports. Team not only failed to win a single split in the European league, but also skipped all international championships for the first time since 2015, including World Championship, which Carlos 'ocelote' Rodriguez is dreaming of winning.

Shortly before the start of the new season, the team took drastic measures, replacing three players at once. The team parted with Wunder, Mikyx and one of its biggest stars Rekkles: instead they were replaced by BrokenBlade, Targamas and Flakked. The fans did not appreciate the replacement, but ocelote insisted — and in the end he was right.

G2 Esports was far from its best in the LEC Spring 2022 regular season, placing 4th with an 11-7 result, which was barely enough to advance to the top of the playoffs. The fans were not too enthusiastic about the loss to Fnatic in the first round of the tournament's finals, but after that unbelievable thing happened: the team changed beyond recognition and showed a streak of 12 wins in a row. G2 defeated Team Vitality and one of the season openers, Misfits Gaming, then took revenge on Fnatic, and in the finals, the team demolished Rogue.

Jankos was one of the best in the playoffs

For the first time in nearly two years, Riot Games allowed fans to attend the LEC Spring 2022 playoffs. And it seems to have helped two G2 veterans to feel more at ease — Jankos and Caps, who played outstanding matches in the lower bracket. We can say the same about BrokenBlade: he became the third player in history (after Zven and Perkz) to win both LEC and LCS titles.

G2 Esports' incredible run in the lower bracket is already being compared to the historic result of T1, which won the split in South Korea without conceding in a single encounter. It looks like the Mid-Season Invitational 2022 title match will be between these two teams.

LEC Spring 2022 Viewership Statistics

The LEC always draws a huge audience: and so it was this time, but the spring split fell short of the record. The tournament's matches were broadcast for a total of 135 hours, and in that time the event amassed 36.5 million Hours Watched and had 270.7K Average Viewers.

The Peak Viewers number of the tournament was reached at the Grand final, where G2 Esports defeated Rogue 3:0. The match was followed by 723K Peak Viewers. That was 27% more than the second most popular game of the tournament, the final of the lower bracket, where G2 took revenge on Fnatic.

It is noteworthy that the top 5 matches of the event included four games of G2 Esports. It was the most popular team of the split, both by Hours Watched and Average Viewers.

The most popular channel for LEC Spring 2022 broadcasts was the league's official English-language Twitch channel. It became the leader by Peak Viewers (339.6K people) and total Hours Watched (16.7 million HW or 45% of the total).

The league's YouTube channel (second by Peak and third by Hours Watched), as well as the Twitch channel otplol_, which covered the league for the French-speaking audience, attracted a significant audience. It should be noted that compared to the 2021 summer split, the number of Average Viewers increased on all major broadcasts — English, French, German, Spanish and Polish.

LEC Spring 2022 did not become the league leader by any of the key metrics for measuring viewership. In particular, it ranked second behind the 2020 Summer Split and the 2021 Spring Split by total Hours Watched, and it was surpassed by all of the league's 2020-2021 tournaments by Peak Viewers.

Despite not having a new record, LEC Spring 2022 was still extremely popular with viewers. In particular, its Average Viewers number was 11% higher than last year's summer split.

G2 Esports showed outstanding performance in LEC Spring 2022 playoffs and looks to be one of the top favorites for the upcoming MSI 2022. Fans of the European team are looking forward to seeing the match with T1, another champion of the spring season. The first international LoL event of 2022 kicks off on May 10 in Busan, South Korea.
