LEC Summer 2024 Regular Season sees 29% more viewers on average than last year

The Regular Season of the LEC Summer 2024 has been an interesting watch so far, with the change in format contributing to a more compact and quicker event. This has meant more jeopardy and competitive action as teams that endure a few bad days will not get a second chance, although the knockouts will see double the number of teams as the Group Stage and Playoffs have been merged into a single bracket for all the splits this year.

The ten top European teams are competing for a total prize pool of $86,515 at this League of Legends tournament. Although it has already surpassed the Peak Viewers figures from last year's edition, the top teams will need to put in better shows if the event is to reach the upper echelons of the series in terms of audience figures.

At the end of the Regular Season, each side had played nine games, with Team BDS and SK Gaming topping the charts with identical 8:1 records. G2 Esports was third on this stage's leaderboard with seven wins and two losses, although the viewership stats will depend a lot on the performances of a couple of other highly followed sides.

Karmine Corp and MAD Lions KOI are owned by massively popular streamers in the form of Kamet0 and ibai, respectively. With the kind of drawing power these two online personalities possess, the coverage of their teams often pulls in millions and helps any event reach a larger audience.

While Karmine Corp finished fifth in the Regular Season standing with a 4:5 record, MAD Lions KOI made it to the knockouts by the skin of its teeth. The Spanish side had the same record as the two eliminated sides — Team Vitality and Rogue — but took up the last available berth thanks to winning the Tiebreakers round against both of these orgs.

Proof of their importance to the 2024 tournament was the fact that Karmine Corp and MAD Lions KOI were part of the most popular match so far. This Week 1, Day 2 clash recorded 386.1K Peak Viewers as the French team came out as the victor in a one-map affair. This figure was an improvement of 12.3% compared to the LEC Summer 2023, where the meeting between the two sides that merged as one earlier this year — MAD Lions and KOI — topped not only the Regular Season but the entire tournament.

Compared to last year's split, the Regular Season watch time also rose by 11.2% thanks to the addition of an extra week of action. The number of Average Viewers also shot up by 29%, showing that the format change, helped by the caliber of participants, was the right choice (so far at least).

However, with a popular name like Team Vitality exiting, the remaining big names will have to go far if they are to help this event finish among the League of Legends EMEA Championship's more successful entries. Fans can tune into the live action of the Playoffs starting with the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals on July 12 as the teams resume their battle to secure the single spot in the 2024 World Championship and three berths at the LEC Finals 2024.
