The Lima Major 2023 Group Stage viewership — top matches, teams and broadcast channels
The Lima Major 2023 Group Stage (Dota 2) has ended in Peru. Out of 18 teams, 12 advanced to the playoffs, while the remaining 6 teams dropped out of the tournament. Esports Charts has analyzed which matches attracted the most viewers and also found the most popular teams of the tournament. Spoiler: Nix once again became the most popular community caster and channel of the tournament in general.
Group Stage Results
There was a tense battle between the participants of Group A, but in the end, Gaimin Gladiators, Team Spirit, Evil Geniuses, and Talon Esports made it to the playoffs' upper bracket. PSG.LGD and Tundra Esports got to the lower bracket. It should be noted that the champion of The International 2022 was only one map away from leaving the Dota 2 tournament.

Team Liquid became the leader of Group B and was the only team to finish the game without a single defeat. Entity, Shopify Rebellion, and Team Aster also made it to the upper bracket. Beastcoast and HellRaisers ended up in the lower bracket.

The Group Stage showed that the teams from Europe prepared for the tournament better than any other team — all teams from that region advanced to the Playoffs (and all except Tundra Esports made it to the upper bracket). The Peruvian teams Beastcoast and Evil Geniuses played well at their home tournament. On the other hand, the teams from China showed surprisingly poor results — EHOME and Knights lost all of their matches. BetBoom Team that earlier won DPC EEU 2023 Tour 1: Division I confidently also didn't show good results, ending up in last but one place in the Group Stage of the tournament in Peru.
Viewership Statistics

The Lima Major 2023 Group Stage viewership statistics
The Lima Major 2023 Group Stage matches accumulated 12.8 million Hours Watched, a 12.2% increase from PGL Arlington Major 2022. It's important to note here that the Lima stage lasted nearly 10 hours longer than the Arlington stage. When it comes to viewership totals, the Average Viewers number decreased by 8% compared to the last major, and the Peak Viewers number decreased by 7.5%. Overall, the basic metrics remained about the same as they were at PGL Arlington Major, but the situation has changed more dramatically in broadcast languages.
The game between BetBoom Esports and Geek Slate, which was played on February 26, became the most popular Group Stage matchup. The excitement around the series was caused by the fact that in case of victory BetBoom retained a theoretical chance of entering the playoffs, but the teams had a draw. As a result, the best team of the First Division of Eastern Europe left the tournament. As for the Peak Viewers at the broadcasts, the match between BetBoom Esports and Geek Slate was watched by 267.8K PV. In comparison, the most popular PGL Arlington Major 2022 Group Stage match attracted just over 300K PV.

Most popular teams of The Lima Major 2023 Group Stage
In the Group Stage, it was the matches of teams from Eastern Europe that attracted the most viewers on broadcasts. BetBoom and Team Spirit became the leaders by this metric, with almost 40K PV ahead of their nearest competitors. The Top 5 also includes two home teams with Peruvian players - Evil Geniuses and beastcoast. HellRaisers rounded out the Top 5.
The most popular languages in The Lima Major 2023 remained the same as at the last major, but their ratios changed a lot. Russian retained the lead and even saw a 5.5% increase in Peak Viewers. English remained in second place, but lost as much as 42.5% of Peak Viewers compared to the tournament in the U.S. mainly due to the change of the coverage studio. Spanish is in third place, up 61% — the Spanish-speaking audience showed great interest in the home tournament and the matches of the local teams.

A channel of Russian-speaking community caster Nix became the most popular channel of The Lima Major 2023 Group Stage — it surpassed everyone by both total Hours Watched and Peak Viewers. Both of these numbers were twice as high compared with the same stage of PGL Arlington Major 2022.
The Top 5 of community casters also includes just_ns, Gorgc, TpaBoMaH, and LightFuryLF. All of them except the last one were also in the Top of the previous Major. Betboom_ru, a channel with Russian-language broadcasts, became the leader among the official channels. The other places in the Top 5 went to the English-language channels of the Epulze studio.
It is interesting that the main Epulze channel was less popular than its secondary channels. The reason for this is almost identical production on all broadcasts, and Epulze did not promote its main channel in any way, unlike the English-language studios at previous majors.
