M6 World Championship’s knockout stage is on-track to be the most popular MLBB esports event ever

Dec 09, 2024 3 min read

The season-ending M6 World Championship for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) hosted its first weekend of Knockout Stage matches. Next weekend will see the tournament come to a close, but for the time being, these quarterfinals and semifinals matches have been the most popular in MLBB history. For the first time on record, the World Championship series has reached over 3M concurrent Peak Vieweers (PV) outside a grand final.

The Knockout Stage teams of the M6 represent many of the esports’ most popular regions. Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and even Russia, are all represented by teams in this exclusive bracket stage. Generally, Indonesian teams have been particularly popular, and Indonesian-speaking fans remain the largest audience for MLBB. At the peak of excitement during the first weekend of knockouts, Indonesian viewership reached 2.93M PV.

In total, the opening weekend received 22.38M Hours Watched. TikTok has continued to prove its worth as an esports broadcasting platform during the M6, now having reached 1.17M Peak Viewers. This was slightly less than the current TikTok platform record, which was achieved during the regional MPL Indonesia circuit recently. As the remaining playoffs matches begin, TikTok could well set a new platform record for esports viewership during the tournament.

YouTube Live viewership remains strong for MLBB, with a majority of the game’s Southeast Asian audiences coming from the red livestreaming platform.

Viewership reached its peak during the Indonesian derby semifinals match between RRQ Hoshi and Team Liquid ID. The game resulted in a hard-fought 3-2 victory for Team Liquid ID, and viewership reached 3.57M Peak Viewers as the match climaxed. This is the highest peak viewership ever achieved outside a Grand Final event for the MLBB World Championship series, and already marks the event as the third-most-popular iteration of the tournament yet.

Critically, the derby match with Team Liquid ID was no fluke. Other matches at the M6 achieved similar record-breaking viewership, with Indonesian fans remaining at the center of it all.

In second place of popular matches that weekend, RRQ Hoshi’s first game against Team Vamos received 3.39M PV. RRQ Hoshi are the stars of the show; the historical Indonesian organization for MLBB has found its top-level form again, to the delight of fans. But, with RRQ Hoshi currently sitting in the lower-bracket after their loss to Team Liquid ID, they might be soon heading home.

Aside from RRQ Hoshi, Fnatic ONIC PH’s game against Falcon Esports received 2.66M Peak Viewers. The match appealed to both Filipino and Burmese audiences, who showed their strength during this game. These regions are two of the longest-standing participants in MLBB esports, and Burmese was the fourth-most-popular language of the weekend.

The final matches of the M6 begin next weekend, on December 10. The matches will likely continue to reach higher viewerships, with a new series record seemingly on the horizon for MLBB. The mobile esports MOBA continues to grow every year, and its presence in the livestreaming community has grown exponentially. Visit the M6’s Schedule tab to see when the action begins again.
