M7 World Championship touches 2.8 million viewers as favorites ONIC stare at early exit
The M7 World Championship is almost halfway there, and the 16 Swiss Stage teams are battling it out for the ultimate glory. Three games in, and the table has a pretty surprising leader in the form of Alter Ego, with plenty of exciting moments and shock results throwing pre-tournament predictions out the window so far.
While two of Alter Ego's games have notched over 2 million Peak Viewers (PV), it was the clash between ONIC Esports and Yangon Galacticos that created the coveted tournament's biggest moment so far. This match, between one of the game's most successful sides and one barely heard about before it qualified for this event, reached just over 2.8 million Peak Viewers (PV).

What led to so much engagement from viewers was the fact that Yangon Galacticos, champion of Myanmar's MLBB Super League Season 2, won this Swiss Stage match 1:0. In fact, following on from the Indonesian heavyweights' shock defeat, "has ONIC been eliminated at M7" became one of the most searched questions among Mobile Legends: Bang Bang fans.
It did not help that the winner of the last two MPL Indonesia seasons went and lost its next game as well, against Russia's Team Spirit, which also peaked at over 2 million viewers. A 1:2 record at the time of writing has put ONIC's chances of progression to the Knockout Stage in serious danger, something no one would have foreseen before the competition started.
Rounds 4 and 5 of the Swiss Stage of this M Series event will be played from January 15 to 17, and the exit of a name like ONIC Esports is sure to affect its viewership potential. Esports Charts will continue to provide coverage of the livestreaming numbers of this $1 million prize pool tournament, which readers can access in our news section.
