French viewership explodes as Karmine Corp returns to EMEA Masters

Aug 22, 2023 2 min read

EMEA Masters returned to tournament play for its second and final split of the year, the 2023 Summer event. 28 of the top European teams compete for a chance at a chunk of the €150K prize pool available for the semi-professional teams. After a Play-In stage, the event kicked off with a Group Stage on the 21st of August and Karmine Corp reigned supreme in terms of viewership.

The French organisation is hugely popular but sadly failed to qualify for the Masters 2023 Spring event, due to signing two new players: Skeanz and Kaori. The team ultimately struggled to meet expectations and failed to qualify for the Spring event. After restructuring their team once more, they’ve made it to the Masters 2023 Summer event and have had a huge effect on viewership.

The first day of the Group Stages for the EMEA Masters Summer 2023 event saw 455.8K hours of watch time collected, an increase of 88.9% compared to the previous split. Both Average Viewers and Peak Viewers also saw a sizeable increase compared to the Spring event, with a peak concurrent viewer figure of 134.6K being recorded during Karmine Corp’s match against Nativz

In terms of average concurrent viewers, the metric rose from 41.9K on the Spring event’s opening day to 72.9K on the first day of the Summer event. A 73.8% increase in average viewers, or more than 30K viewers in other terms, is no small increase for a league in only a couple of months.

Karmine Corp undoubtedly had a tremendous impact on the viewership of the event. Not only was their match against Nativz the most popular match of the opening day for the event, the top three matches of the day when ranked by peak concurrent viewers all featured Karmine Corp.

Karmine Corp has returned to the EMEA Masters series and brought their huge French viewership with them, which increased by over 320% compared to the Spring event. The EMEA Masters 2023 Summer event will continue until the 8th of September, so keep an eye out as Esports Charts will cover all viewership-related newsbreaks for this event.
