Methodz joins OpTic and scump for CDL watch parties: How will this affect the league’s viewership?
Former Call of Duty (CoD) pro player Methodz joined esports organization OpTic Gaming as a content creator. The 2020 and 2021 Call of Duty League All-Star had already announced his retirement from professional gaming on February 5. Now, he will turn to full-time streaming as well as Call of Duty League (CDL) watch parties. OpTic content creator scump has had huge success with a similar move.

For over ten years, Methodz competed in Call of Duty under different teams and titles. Among his best performances are his first places in the CWL Atlanta Open 2018 and the CDL 2020 Week - Toronto. Known for his funny personality, the former e-athlete has built a loyal fanbase, allowing him to pursue a career in streaming. His announcement to return to one of his former organizations was met with excitement by the CoD community. The anticipation was also fuelled by OpTic content creator scump, who was part of Methodz’ announcement stream.
scump is also a former CoD e-athlete who had previously played for OpTic Texas. During the 14 years of his career, he won major titles, such as the CDL 2022 - Major 1. scump ended his pro player journey with a blast, finishing first in the CDL 2023 - Major 2 Qualifiers. To continue his legacy, he stayed with OpTic as a content creator, streaming FPS and other games. scump has affected CDL’s viewership significantly with his watch parties since then.

scump’s first CDL event as a community caster was the CDL 2023: Stage 2 Major on February 5, 2023. The tournament became CDL’s biggest event in three years, peaking at nearly 302,000 viewers. Although the league’s move from YouTube to Twitch positively affected viewership numbers, scump and other community casters contributed to its popularity, too. More than 48% of the tournament’s viewers can be attributed to community casters. scump’s stream was the most popular, with 1.75 million Hours Watched. The former e-athlete is so popular among CoD fans that he “dragged” part of the league’s official channel audience to his watch parties.
CDL’s viewership is on an upward trend, and community casters play a vital role in this success. With Methodz and scump on the same content team, fans can expect highly entertaining CoD streams. Moreover, Methodz’s first watch party of the CDL Major Three kick-off matches at 8 pm GMT+0 might give the league another audience boost.
