Most Popular Esports Events in December 2022
In December, we had plenty of esports tournaments, in a variety of disciplines, from CS:GO to Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. These were the last tournaments of 2022, and closed out a very successful year for esports. We collected all the necessary data to bring you the tournaments that were able to reach the largest audiences, and entertain fans from all over the globe.

Mobile Legends event of IESF World Championship 2022 was the most popular tournament of December. The event which took place in Bali, Indonesia, gathered the eighth best national teams in the world, and had a prize pool of $100K. It reached a wide audience, achieving 671K Peak Viewers, in the grand final between Indonesia and the Philippines. In the end, the home team came out on top, with a dominant 3-0. The MLBB IESF World Championship 2022 was a very successful tournament, that became the most popular event in IESF history.
In second place, we have another mobile tournament, the Arena of Valor Premier League 2022. The event was a replacement for the game’s 2022 World Cup, and had a prize pool of $1 million. Ho Chi Minh City, in Vietnam, was where the event took place, and fans had the pleasure to watch the twelve best teams in the world, fight for their place in the history books.
Thai team Bacon Time had an amazing tournament, only dropping one game the entire competition, and were the deserved winners. It was in the grand final between Bacon Time and Saigon Phantom the event reached its peak viewership of 596K. Arena of Valor Premier League 2022 is the sixth most popular event in the game’s history.
PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2022 takes the third spot with 525K PV. The most prestigious event, of the most popular mobile battle royale title in the world, happened in Malaysia and Indonesia. It had an astonishing $4 million prize pool, with fifty teams from all around the world competing for the trophy. It’s worth noting that, the event ended on the eighth of January, but we only took into consideration the PV reached in December.
BLAST Premier World Final 2022, is the first non-mobile event in this list. The last big CS:GO tournament of 2022, gathered eight of the best teams in the world in Abu Dhabi, to battle for a $1 million prize pool. It was a tournament full of great matches, with G2 Esports winning their first competition since 2017, ending a five-year title drought. The grand final between G2 Esports and Team Liquid was watched by 378K simultaneous viewers, being the most popular match of the event.
Closing the list we have the ALGS: 2022 Split 1 Pro League - APAC North. The event was held online, with the thirty best teams from Japan participating. Fnatic won the event, qualifying for the Apex Legends Global Series: Split 1 Playoffs, and taking home a percentage of the $125K prize pool. It was able to reach a considerable audience, having 191K Peak Viewers.

If we only look at the numbers for the English-speaking audience, we can see that BLAST Premier World Final 2022 takes first place, with 228K PV. In second place, we have the Call of Duty League 2023: Stage 1 Major Qualifiers, with 184K Peak Viewers. Worth noting that, this event marked the return of the Call of Duty League to Twitch, where its been achieving some great viewership numbers so far. The Call of Duty League 2023: Stage 1 Major comes closely behind, with 159K PV, securing third place.
RLCS 2022-23 - Fall Split Major was able to reach a considerable audience, with 146K simultaneous viewers watching the grand final between Gen.G Mobil1 Racing and
Moist Esports. Closing out the list, we have the ALGS: 2022 Split 1 Pro League - North America, which in general wasn't as popular as the APAC North event, but attracted much more English viewers.
As mentioned previously, the Call of Duty League has been achieving great viewership numbers since returning to Twitch. In December, the league had the most popular esports channel on the Amazon-owned company. 164K PV where reached in the game between OpTic Texas, one of the most popular teams in the league, and the Florida Mutineers. Blastpremier comes in second place, as the BLAST Premier World Final 2022 tournament achieved 141K Peak Viewers on its official channel.
Closing out the top three, we have the RocketLeague channel, which reached 100K Peak Viewers, in the RLCS 2022-23 - Fall Split Major grand final. Kamet0 also broadcasted some games of the event, as Karmine Corp, a team of which he is a founder, attended the competition. He claimed fourth place with 78K PV. Closing out the list, we have the btssmash channel, which broadcasted the Mainstage 2022 Ultimate, and had 64K PV.
2022 was a good year for esports, and it couldn’t have ended in a better way. In 2023 we will have plenty of more prestigious tournaments, that will reach a large audience, and perhaps even break some viewership records.
