#5 - G2 Esports

G2 Esports, one of the most storied organizations in esports, enjoyed another dominant year in the LEC. With a legacy that includes numerous regional titles and a history of dominating the European scene, G2 has cemented its place as the most successful LEC team of all time.

Their consistent performance in regional and international tournaments has earned them widespread acclaim, and in 2024, they secured another three LEC titles. G2 Esports was a driving force for the LEC’s viewership this year. Throughout the Winter, Spring, and Summer stages this year, the team only lost one playoffs match.

Internationally, the highlight of G2’s year was their deep run at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), where they reached the semifinals after a series of nail-biting matches. Although they fell short of lifting the trophy after being eliminated by T1, their performance solidified their reputation as one of the most consistent teams in the Western League of Legends scene. Coupled with their vibrant social media presence and creative content, G2’s popularity transcends competitive results, having already earned their loyal fanbase.

#4 - Hanwha Life Esports

Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) emerged as one of the most explosive teams of 2024. The team signed Choi "Doran" Hyeon-jun for the 2024 season, who became a crucial part of their roster. For the first time in the organization’s history, they were able to claim an LCK title at the Summer 2024 event. The team defeated Gen.G 3:2 in the Grand Finals to claim their first title, which also saw them qualify to Worlds for the first time in three years.

At Worlds, HLE made the playoffs after defeating PSG Talon, G2 Esports, and FlyQuest in the group stage. The team was paired up against the dominant Chinese roster Bilibili Gaming in the first round, and the South Korean squad was sent home. The top eight finish at Worlds matched their previous best results at Worlds 2021.

HLE’s podium performance in the LCK for Spring and their title in Summer earned the team a significant amount of watch time. As we’ve covered, the LCK is the most-watched regional LoL circuit, and making it to the final matches of the circuit always draws in high viewership for teams. Coming into 2025, HLE have parted ways with Doran as he heads to T1, but received Choi "Zeus" Woo-je in the process. Zeus has four years of experience with T1 under his belt, which could help HLE to continue their competitive development in the coming year.

#3 - Bilibili Gaming

Bilibili Gaming (BLG) stunned the esports world in 2023 with their meteoric rise to prominence. The Chinese team left 2022 as a bottom-table LPL team, but they returned in 2023 as a region-leading team and recorded strong international results. Ironically, at both the MSI and Worlds 2023, BLG were eliminated by a fellow Chinese team.

Esports Charts are unable to consider Chinese livestreaming viewership in our statistics due to the unreliability of reported data and a lack of transparency. BLG’s third-place ranking reflects their viewership on global livestreaming platforms, which mostly came from their appearances at international events rather than the LPL.

Although BLG were competitive in 2023, they didn’t actually win any titles. However, 2024 saw the team further refine themselves and achieve their first LPL title win in Spring. The team also took home the Summer LPL title, highlighting their dominance regionally ahead of their peers. In mid-2024, BLG made it all the way to the finals of the MSI, before being dispatched 1:3 by Gen.G.

The team’s most notable international achievement came at the Worlds, where they reached the Grand Finals in a Cinderella run of matches. The road was not easy for Bilibili Gaming, who had finished the third round of the group stage with a 1:2 record, only one loss away from elimination. It was through sheer willpower that they were able to turn their luck around, winning the next two games of the group stage before defeating both HLE and Weibo Gaming in the playoffs. Although they were unable to deny T1 their back-to-back championships, BLG cemented themselves as a significant team for both the LPL and the international LoL stage.

#2 - Gen.G

Gen.G consistently ranks among the most elite teams in League of Legends, and 2024 was no exception. For another year in a row, Gen.G were the second-most-watched LoL team in the world. Known for their disciplined approach to the game and stellar teamwork, Gen.G demonstrated why they are perennial contenders for the World Championship title. Last year, the team was able to claim an LCK title, a win at the MSI, and a top four placement at Worlds 2024.

As a cornerstone of the Korean League of Legends scene, Gen.G boasts a decorated history, including multiple LCK championships and strong performances on the international stage. 2024 marked a first-ever for the Korean organization, as their win at the MSI 2024 was their first championship title earned on the international stage in LoL.

Gen.G represented Korea at Worlds with high expectations, captivating fans worldwide. After emerging from the groups with a flawless 3-0 record, many fans marked Gen.G as their favourite to win the whole event. Although they ultimately fell short of the championship after being defeated by their long-time rivals T1, Gen.G’s ability to deliver thrilling matches ensured their place as one of the most-watched teams of the year.

#1 - T1

T1 remained the undisputed king of League of Legends viewership this year, a position they have held many years before. With a legacy built on excellence and led by the iconic Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok, T1 continues to set the gold standard for esports organizations worldwide.

2024 was a year of contrasts for T1 in the LCK. While their international results throughout the year were impressive, their regional campaigns were marked by inconsistency and struggles against rising challengers like Hanwha Life Esports and Gen.G. These setbacks raised questions about T1's ability to maintain their dominance domestically.

However, T1 silenced all doubts on the international stage by winning both the Esports World Cup 2024 and claiming back-to-back World Championship titles. Their Worlds run showcased their resilience and adaptability, as Faker and the team delivered masterful performances against the best teams from around the globe. As League of Legends heads into 2025, T1’s enduring popularity shows no signs of waning.

League of Legends’ competitive scene thrives on the passion and dedication of its players, teams, and fans. As these top five teams demonstrated in 2024, the magic of LoL lies in its ability to deliver unforgettable moments that resonate with millions of viewers worldwide. Whether through dominance or underdog stories, these teams represent the pinnacle of esports entertainment. The coming year promises even more excitement as the competition grows fiercer and new challengers rise to the occasion.
