MPL Malaysia Season 13 Group Stage gets 42% more Peak Viewers than previous edition
The MPL Malaysia Season 13, which began on March 29 at the Stadium MBSJ Serdang Jaya in Seri Kembangan, Malaysia, saw its Group Stage conclude on May 12. It witnessed much higher peak viewership compared to the same phase of the previous edition, with the watch time also showing a marked improvement.
This Mobile Legends: Bang Bang tournament is seeing ten of the countries' best sides battle for a prize pool of $100,000. Along with that, the winner advances to the MLBB Mid Season Cup 2024 while the runner-up will progress to the same events' Wildcard phase.
This MLBB Professional League competition reached 236.4K Peak Viewers during Week 3, Day 2 of the Group Stage. It came during the match between Homebois and King Empire, a battle between the old and the new.
The former is the defending champion while the latter was created earlier this year and looks to become a force in the discipline with a good showing at the year's first big-ticket event. Moreover, fans were eager to see former Team SMG star Sasa in action, as they weren't sure where he would play after it announced it had been sold to another esports organization.
This peak concurrent viewership figure was a spike of 42% from the MPL Malaysia Season 12. The battle between TODAK and Homebois garnered 166.4K PV, with the eventual tournament winner sealing a comfortable 2:0 win.
Even the overall watch time across the Group Stage saw a rise in Season 13 by 5.9% despite being on air for around seven hours less. The absence of one of the league's most consistent and popular teams, Team SMG, certainly added to the anticipation among fans as to which side would step up to challenge the holders. So far, fans have gotten behind Sasa's King Empire.
The MPL Malaysia Season 13 will resume on May 30 with its Playoffs that will run till June 2. The six sides to advance are Red Giants Esports, Homebois, RSG MY, TODAK, Team HAQ, and King Empire, so it remains to be seen which participant goes all the way and how that affects the viewership numbers of a league that has steadily been breaking records with each split.
