Team Liquid PH conquer MPL Philippines Season 16, now second most-watched season ever

Team Liquid PH conquer MPL Philippines Season 16, now second most-watched season ever

The past weekend marked the conclusion of MPL Philippines Season 16, the second most popular regional league for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. While the broadcasts attracted a solid livestream audience, they didn’t manage to beat the record-breaking viewership of last season.

MPL Philippines Season 16 was the last season of the year, deciding which teams from the region would qualify for the upcoming M7 World Championship. Team Liquid PH emerged as champions for the second straight season, claiming their third domestic title since the American organization joined the mobile MOBA scene. In the final match, Team Liquid PH defeated Aurora Gaming PH, who also secured a spot at the World Championship.

Meanwhile, ONIC Philippines, the M6 World Championship winners competing under the Fnatic ONIC tag, finished in fourth place and didn’t manage to qualify for the main international MLBB tournament.

MPL Philippines Season 16 Viewership Statistics

MPL Philippines Season 16 broadcasts racked up over 28.5 million Hours Watched. That’s the second-highest viewership in the league’s history, just 8.1% shy of the record set in Season 15

The average match viewership for MPL Philippines Season 16 fell by 6% from the previous season, settling at 178,900 live viewers. Peak viewership also dipped by 15%, with 1.5 million live viewers tuning in for the grand final between Team Liquid PH and Aurora Gaming PH.

Overall, this season attracted slightly fewer viewers than the last. Still, the drop was minimal, and by most viewership metrics, MPL Philippines Season 16 comfortably ranks as the second-highest in the league’s history.

The main reason for slight viewership declines seems to be the grand final lineup. In Season 15, the championship match featured ONIC PH versus Team Liquid PH, the “perfect scenario” for drawing viewers. ONIC PH was the reigning world champion, and Team Liquid PH was their biggest rival. Team Liquid PH went on to win that season and later claimed the MLBB Mid Season Cup 2025. During the first half of 2025, these two teams were the strongest in MPL Philippines, as shown in international competitions. On top of that, the grand final of previous season was incredibly thrilling — a best-of-seven series that ended 4:3, delivering plenty of excitement for fans. In the Season 16 final, the tension was missing — Team Liquid PH were clear favorites, and Aurora Gaming PH had no major titles. The match ended in a one-sided 4:0 sweep, not the most exciting scenario for viewers or organizers.

Despite a small drop in viewership, MPL Philippines Season 16 still ranks as the second-highest season in the league’s history by total hours watched and third by peak viewership. That’s an impressive result for a league that’s been running for several years.

As noted earlier, the MPL Philippines Season 16 finalists will represent the region at the M7 World Championship. The tournament runs from January 3 to 25 in Jakarta, featuring a $1 million prize pool. Fans can follow the results and viewership stats on the Esports Charts report page.
