Mid-Season Invitational 2024: T1's Victory Over G2 Dominates Discussions

Esports Charts delved into the Mid-Season Invitational 2024 broadcasts to uncover which players, champions, teams, and standout moments captivated Twitch viewers from May 1st to 12th. Here's what we found.

T1 emerged as the most talked-about team so far at MSI 2024, with its name lighting up Twitch chats over 97.2K messages: across 70 different channels, T1 garnered a staggering 138.4K mentions. This dominance isn't surprising, given T1's status as the most illustrious and beloved organization in League of Legends. Interestingly, T1's mention count even rivaled the counts of the most common linguistic elements used in text conversations like articles and prepositions.

Following closely behind, G2 Esports claimed the second spot. LEC champions commanded attention, garnering over 71.3K messages from Twitch users. It's noteworthy that, unlike T1, G2 didn't partake in the Play-In stage and had only contested two matches in the tournament thus far. In addition to T1 and G2, the top 5 most discussed participants of MSI 2024 featured Fnatic, PSG Talon, and Gen.G.

Faker, the midlaner and leader of the T1, was the most talked-about player in the tournament thus far. From May 1st to 12th, MSI viewers flooded the chats with over 54.7K messages mentioning his nickname, surpassing his closest contender in the top rankings, Caps, by 2.5 times. Faker's legendary status in the League of Legends community is unquestionable; at this tournament, the Korean esports star has showcased both remarkable plays and occasional mistakes.

Joining Faker and Caps as the most discussed players of the tournament are ChovyNoah, and Keria. Interestingly, the nickname "Chovy" was heavily spammed in copy-pastas: its mention count nearly doubling the number of messages containing his actual nickname.

Topping the list of the most discussed champions are K'Sante and Kalista, with 36.1K and 14K messages respectively during the specified period. The popularity of these champions is hardly surprising, given their frequent appearance in matches. Currently, K’Sante and Kalista are in the meta, actively utilized by top clubs from Korea, China, and Europe.

In addition to KSante and Kalista, the top 5 in terms of message count also includes Poppy, Zac, and Varus. Interestingly, Poppy and Zac didn't feature as frequently in the tournament and don't even rank in the top 20 characters by number of matches played. However, specific teams — G2 Esports, T1, and Fnatic — frequently picked them.

The final showdown between G2 Esports and T1 in the fifth game of the series sparked the most significant response from viewers so far. Chat activity surged to 12.7K messages per minute across all broadcasting channels at that moment. The second most hyped moment during the specified period was Bilibili Gaming's victory over PSG Talon, which led to chat activity peaking at 8.9K messages after the final battle.

In third place was a lighthearted moment involving Bin, the toplaner of Bilibili Gaming. During the series against PSG Talon, the camera captured Bin sitting with his eyes closed: viewers immediately joked that Bin decided to take a nap during the break between games.

Two more broadcast fragments featuring T1 also made it into the top 5 most discussed moments of the tournament: the preparation for the final game against Estral Esports and a successful ambush by T1 players on Caps in the jungle, followed by an immediate attack on Baron Nashor by the Korean team.

The Mid-Season Invitational 2024 matches will continue on May 14th, with Top Esports and G2 Esports playing in the first elimination series. You can track the interim viewer statistics of the tournament on the live reporting page.
