Viewership statistics for ML:BB Women's Invitational and WSL Season 4 sets a record for women's esports

Female esports is among the trends of 2022. Last year, female Valorant tournaments were hosted in several regions, and a league with a total prize pool of $500K was announced in CS:GO. Other games (mostly mobile ones) are popular in Asia, and female teams started to form in these disciplines. This was how the development of female mobile esports began in Southeast Asian countries, which led to a new record being set in ML:BB. In the new article, Esports Charts will overview the results of the regular female league in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, as well as the record-breaking event of the Invitational series.

Female ML:BB esports attracts tens of thousands of viewers

Woman Star League is a regional league sponsored by Moonton and the Indonesian Gaming League that has been running since 2020. It features female amateur teams as well as the rosters of popular Southeast esports organizations such as RRQ Mika, Evos Lynx and Onic Zenith.

Woman Star League viewership stats

The first league lasted only nine hours and was more of a trial event for the female esports scene. The event’s duration has been gradually increasing and the fourth season was on the air for 101 hours already. The third season of the series has managed to set a record, but the performance of Woman Star League Season 4 decreased a bit, although it is not that critical.

Even larger event took place after that – Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Women's Invitational. One should note that the fourth season of the WSL became a qualifier for the Invitational and the top two teams (GPX Basreng and Belletron Era) were awarded with tournament spots.

We took a look at the top 5 most popular female esports tournaments of all time based on Peak Viewers. The graph shows that all events belong to Mobile Legends: Bang Bang discipline, with Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Women's Invitational setting a new record for female competitions: 392K viewers. In addition to the new Invitational and the WSL series, the UniPin Ladies Series, a tournament from the Indonesian gaming community that covers the news of the gaming world, also got into the ranking.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Women's Invitational viewership stats

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Women's Invitational has become one of the largest events in the history of female esports. The tournament was held from January 27 to 30, with nine teams from different countries of Southeast Asia competing for the share of $15K prize pool.

The event ran from January 27 to 30 and was streamed across four platforms: YouTube, Facebook Gaming, and TikTok. The absence of Twitch is explained by the fact that mobile esports struggles with attracting viewers to this platform. YouTube generated half of the total Hours Watched becoming the main platform for MWI by the number of viewers.

In terms of audience, 84% of Hours Watched was generated by viewers of the Indonesian language. Such high figure is explained by the fact that Indonesia is leading in Southeast Asia in terms of the popularity of Mobile Legends. Also note that MWI had way more female commentators and interviewers as compared to the regular ML:BB tournaments.

The most popular match was the final between GPX Basreng and Bigetron Era gathering 392K Peak Viewers! This is currently an all-time record for female esports tournaments. This result hints at a rather promising future for women's esports in Southeast Asia, although competing with MPL (which is followed by millions of people) is still out of question.
