PGL Wallachia Season 3 became the most consistently watched tournament of the series

Mar 18, 2025 3 min read

Last Sunday marked the conclusion of the third PGL Wallachia tournament, where Team Liquid secured a commanding victory, their first title of the new calendar year. Notably, the tournament became the most successful of the series in terms of average viewership, generating the most hours of watch time despite having the shortest airtime.

Hosted at the PGL Studio in Bucharest, the Dota 2 tournament gathered some of the world's top teams, such as Team Liquid, Tundra Esports, FalconsGaimin Gladiators, and Team Spirit. As expected, this group of teams reached the crucial playoff matches, with no major upsets.

The Grand Final saw Tundra face off against Team Liquid, with the reigning world champions finally breaking their rough streak: they hadn't placed higher than 7th at tournaments in 2025. Liquid secured a 3:1 victory, claiming the $300,000 prize. However, the tournament's biggest surprise came from Anton 'dyrachyo' Shkredov, who unexpectedly announced his departure from Tundra and an indefinite break due to burnout. As a result, the biggest question leading up to the next big tournament is who will step into his role.

PGL Wallachia Season 3 Dota 2 Event Top Matches and Viewer Stats

Altogether, the PGL Wallachia Season 3 matches aired for over 100 hours, generating more than 15,000,000 hours of watch time, the highest total in the series' history.

Unlike the previous two events, this tournament featured slightly more 'sweeps,' resulting in a shorter overall runtime. This makes the record-setting Hours Watched (HW) even more impressive, as it was driven by generally higher viewer engagement: the event recorded the series' highest average viewership, surpassing 148,000 concurrent viewers.

Unsurprisingly, the most anticipated matchups were the battles between the 'big four': Team Liquid, Tundra, Team Spirit, and Gaimin Gladiators. All of the top five most popular matches featured these teams, with peak viewership hitting over 342,000 during the Grand Final.

Tundra became the most-watched team overall, having played notably more matches than its competitors. However, in terms of average viewership per match, the competition was much tighter, with a different team leading by a narrow margin over its two closest challengers. Still, the top three most popular teams managed to significantly outshine the rest of the field.
