Broadcast promotion helped PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2023 achieve an impressive pre-Grand Final viewership

Nov 28, 2023 3 min read

The first part of the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2023 recently ended in Malaysia, where teams completed the Group Stage, followed by Survival Stage and Last Chance. 32 teams were eliminated and only 16 best squads have qualified for Grand Finals stage, which will take place in Turkey in December. The tournament demonstrates a large audience reach and has the potential to surpass the previous championship in terms of viewership significantly. This has been made possible thanks to tournament broadcasts promotion on Facebook.

The number of PMGC 2023 viewers gradually increased at each stage. At the beginning of the Group Stage, rounds were attracting around 300k-400K Peak Viewers, and the number was over 600K Peak Viewers by the end of the stage. Ultimately, the Peak Viewers number reached 813.6K in the final rounds of the Last Chance stage. In comparison, there were just over 525K Peak Viewers in the previous tournament at a similar stage. This indicates a growth of about 55% in this metric. At the same time, the Average Viewers number on the broadcasts increased by 33%.

Where did this growth come from? The organizers of the PMGC 2023 did additional promotion of the tournament on platforms like Facebook and TikTok. Thanks to this, the number of unique channels covering the event increased: there were 231 such channels this year compared to 183 channels at the PMGC 2022. At the same time, the share of all TikTok broadcasts increased from 4.1% to 12.8%.

The main matches of the PMGC 2023 are still ahead, and there is a high chance that the final Peak Viewers number will significantly surpass the figures of the PMGC 2022. The previous tournament managed to gather 851K PV, and this result was almost reached already.

PMGC Tournaments Comparison

Most of the PMGC teams have usually been from Asia because of the game's popularity in China, South Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and other Asian nations. The PMGC 2023 final stage will be held outside of Southeast Asia for the first time, which could have an unexpected impact on the viewership statistics.

The PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2023 Grand Finals will be held in Istanbul from December 8-10. There, eighteen matches between sixteen teams will determine the champion. The tournament will have a $3 million prize pool. You can follow the championship progress on the event's page.
