PUBG Global Series 2024 continues growing viewership streak with Phase 4

The PUBG Global Series 2024 has continued after setting a viewership record for the series last month. The Phase 3 of the event series was the most popular PUBG: Battlegrounds event of 2024 at the time, and Phase 4 surpassed this record. The PUBG Global Series 2024 Phase 4 event showed the power of Asian viewership for the battle royale title, and spells good fortunes for the many upcoming international tournaments for PUBG: Battlegrounds in the rest of 2024.

PUBG: Battlegrounds reached its peak popularity in 2018, when it was new and on the minds of many streamers and content creators across the globe. Since then, popularity for the esports division of the tiel has slowly fallen off; however, in recent years, the game has been slowly building back up its esports viewership. Since 2020, viewership has been slowly climbing for the game, and 2024 saw the title reach its highest peak viewership since 2019. 

The PUBG Global Series 2024 Phase 4 event continued on the success of Phase 3, which was previously the most popular tournament of the year. Phase 4 of the series was hosted in Shanghai, China, and had $300,000 up for grabs in prizes for its participants. Twisted Minds ultimately took home first place and $100,000 in prizes, earning their first major trophy of 2024.

The event spanned seven days in China, and generated 3.37M Hours Watched across just under 27 hours of broadcasting time. Viewership for the event was stable, and it recorded one of the highest average viewerships PUBG: Battlegrounds has seen in recent years. Throughout the event, 125.2K Average Viewers were tuned it at any time, 

The most popular language for broadcasts of the event was Vietnamese. The Vietnamese audience for PUBG: Battlegrounds has quickly grown into the leading force behind the esports game. Apart from YouTube Live, the event was also highly popular on Nimo TV, which is often frequented by Vietnamese viewers. Nimo TV’s peak viewership is only a few hundred concurrent viewers less than YouTube Live’s peak, highlighting the strength of Vietnamese audiences for PUBG esports.

Apart from Vietnamese, Thai and Korean audiences were also tuning in to the Phase 4. English-language broadcasts were also similar in popularity to Thai and Korean streams, but this viewership represents an international audience that may reflect some Southeast Asian demographics.

The PUBG Global Series 2024 Phase 4 event dethroned Phase 3 as the fifth-most-popular PUBG: Battlegrounds tournament, moving into the final place of this ranking. Although the viewership for the event is incomparable to the extremely high viewership enjoyed by the title in 2018 and 2019, it is a serious step forward for PUBG esports to host its most popular events in years. 

The growing viewership for PUBG: Battlegrounds is promising for the remaining 2024 esports schedule, which features multiple major international events for this esports title. PUBG: Battlegrounds will be one of the esports disciplines represented at this year’s Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where a $2M event will be hosted for PUBG: Battlegrounds.

Later in the year, the game will also host its PUBG Global Championship 2024, which will be hosted in Kuala Lumpur, catering to the title’s large Asian audience. The event will feature a $1.5M prize pool and cap off the year of esports action enjoyed by fans around the world. With viewership growing for PUBG: Battlegrounds, these two major international events are chances for the esports title to reach its highest viewership in years, and show that it still has plenty of life left in it.
