PUBG world championships show huge viewership differences: PMGC is way ahead of its PC counterpart
PUBG is one of the most popular Battle Royale games in the world, with the title being played regularly by thousands of people from all around the globe. This November the game has its two most important tournaments of the year. The PUBG Global Championship 2022, is the world championship for the PC version, and the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2022, just like the name indicates, is the most important tournament for the mobile version of the title.
Both events have the same format, but while the PUBG Global Championship 2022 has 32 teams attending, the PUBG Mobile Global Championship has 51 squads battling to be crowned the best in the world. They also vary in the prize pool department, with the PC version having a $2 million prize pool, while the mobile event has double that with $4 million. The events also have different organizers, with the PC version being produced by the PUBG Corporation, while the mobile event has four companies helping with its production: Tencent, VSPN, KRAFTON, and Level Infinite.
The PGC is already in its final phase, while the PMGC is still in its Group Stage phase, the first of the event. Taking this into account, we at Esports Charts collected all the available stats of both events and compared them to see how the viewership of both tournaments differs.

We can see that the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2022 is much more popular than its PC counterpart. It has 504K Peak Viewers to the 171K PV of the PUBG Global Championship 2022, and its average number of concurrent viewers is also far superior, with 251K AV to the just 99K AV the PC event had so far. So it's safe to say the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2022 is captivating the interest of thousands more fans.
FB is the most popular streaming platform of the PMGC with 284K PV, followed closely by YouTube with 278K, and TikTok closes the top three with 32K PV. Twitch only has 1.9K Peak Viewers. As for the PGC, YouTube is the most popular platform with 98K PV, a number that is very far from the ones reached in the PMGC, with Twitch taking second place with 62K PV. Here we can see that the viewers of both tournaments have different preferences when it comes to choosing where to watch the event.
If we take a look at the most popular languages of both events, we can see that the majority of them are from Asian countries. In the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2022 Indonesian is the most popular language, with 226K Peak Viewers, and is followed by English with 155K PV. The other three languages are Bahasa, Nepali, and Arabic, with all of them being far from the viewership numbers reached by the top two languages. In the PUBG Global Championship, it’s the Vietnamese language that occupies the top spot with 54K PV, and the second place belongs to Thai with 49K PV. The remaining languages are English, Korean, and Chinese.
It's clear that the majority of viewers that tune into both events come from Asia, which is normal for the PMGC since the mobile esports scene is huge in Asia, especially in countries like Indonesia and China. Western viewers are not that interested in both events, and curiously the English language is less popular in PGC despite the PC version of the game being much more popular in North America and Europe than the mobile version.
Both tournaments are still ongoing, but we can already see that the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2022 is the most popular one, and it's expected that the viewership stats of the event continue to grow, since the tournament is still in the beginning. This just shows how popular the mobile game is in Asia, and how massive the mobile gaming industry is in the region. PUBG Mobile is without a doubt more popular than its PC version, and these stats prove just that.
