Red Bull Campus Clutch 2023 became the most popular year of the series thanks to a new focus on content
The Red Bull Campus Clutch 2023 is the third season of the collegiate tournament hosted by Red Bull in collaboration with Riot Games. The event series was developed to foster and develop talent within the esports scene, allowing university students a taste of an international LAN event and the big stage.
The 2023 season restructured the final LAN event: 2023’s iteration featured 34 teams from across the globe, compared to the 47 teams which attended the LAN final in 2022. But this didn’t stop the event from developing its viewership and growing to new heights in 2023. The Red Bull Campus Clutch 2023 was the most popular iteration of the event series to date.

Of all the national qualifiers hosted for the main LAN event, the United Kingdom hosted the most popular one with 13K Peak Viewers. The presented rating reflects the international nature of the Red Bull Campus Clutch event series, with countries from Europe, Asia, and Africa making up the top qualifiers by Peak Viewers.
The LAN finals for the event featured a Group Stage Swiss system, where the teams were divided into 8 different groups of 4 teams. The top half of each group then advanced into the Playoffs Round of 16. With so many games to be played at the event, the tournament offered the competing students ample opportunity to get the most out of their LAN experience, while also providing plenty of content for the various channels covering the event.

After the weekend of gaming, the LAN finals for the series garnered 416K Hours Watched in total. When all of the regional qualifiers from around the globe are included in the statistics, the watch time for the Red Bull Campus Clutch 2023 rises to 539.4K HW. This figure places the event into the top 50 most-watched Valorant events of 2023, so far at least.
The Grand Final match between GARUDA of Indonesia and Zen Esports of Peru was a Best-of-5 match which ended in a 3-1 victory for the Indonesian squad. The Peruvian team was one of the few teams at the event to be signed by an esports organisation, and their players showed promise at the Red Bull event.
The Red Bull Campus Clutch 2023 featured a brand-new showmatch, which became the second-most-popular game of the entire event. The showmatch featured various streamers and professional players from Turkey, where the event was hosted, the most famous of which was tarik. Tarik is of Turkish descent, but there was a more significant reason for tarik attending the event.

Tarik announced while hosting a watch party of the event in person that he has signed with Red Bull Gaming as an esports athlete. He confirmed this will not interfere with his role as a streamer signed to Sentinals, and he will represent both organisations from now on. Tarik’s watch party for the event and his appearance in the showmatch gave a significant boost to the event’s viewership, and he was the most popular streamer of the tournament.

Between Tarik’s support of the event’s viewership and the interest of watching various professionals and streamers from Turkey, the Red Bull Campus Clutch 2023 became the most popular event of the series by a wide margin.
The new focus on delivering exciting content to their viewers alongside the collegiate tournament proved a winning formula for Red Bull Gaming. Mixing content creation and internet personalities with esports is quickly becoming a trend in esports as a proven method for drawing large viewership.
Red Bull Gaming’s introduction of the showmatch featuring streamers and professionals from the host country adds an exciting new aspect to the event series. On top of being a world-leading collegiate esports tournament, the Red Bull Campus Clutch may become a staple of the Valorant community for its showmatches and integration of the host country.
