The Superliga 2025 Finals gathered the lowest viewership in six years

Sep 03, 2025 3 min read

On August 31, Madrid hosted the Superliga 2025 Finals, the concluding stage of the season in Spain’s regional league. The event peaked at just 17.7K viewers — a very modest turnout for the series. The last time the Superliga Finals posted numbers this low was all the way back in 2019.

In 2025, Superliga organizers tweaked the league format, splitting the season into three stages — Winter, Spring, and Summer. Teams earned ranking points in each split, which were then used to award spots at the EMEA Masters. Meanwhile, the lowest-ranked team at the end of the season must defend its place in a special Promotion Tournament.

After three splits of the Superliga 2025, the Spanish league’s top four teams — Los Heretics, GIANTX Pride, Barça eSports, and Veni Vidi Vici — secured their spots in the Finals to compete for EMEA Masters Summer 2025 slots. All four teams qualified for the tournament, but only three advanced directly to the main stage. GIANTX Pride ultimately claimed the championship, while Veni Vidi Vici had to settle for a spot in the Last Chance Qualifiers.

The Superliga 2025 Finals posted disappointing viewership numbers. The championship match between GIANTX Pride and Los Heretics peaked at just 17.7K viewers, while the other two matches pulled in barely half that. For comparison, even their playoff clash during Summer 2025 topped 20K peak viewers — and that wasn’t even close to the season’s biggest matchup. So, what explains this sharp decline?

Most popular Superliga’s seasons in 2025

One major factor was the absence of KOI Fénix. The academy squad of the Spanish powerhouse, fronted by Ibai “Ibai” Llanos, didn’t make the league’s top four and therefore missed the Superliga 2025 Finals. Their absence also meant no community casters from the club and, consequently, a significant chunk of their fanbase was missing from the decisive matches. The Finals also lacked coverage from DiarioMARCA, the channel that had led in viewership throughout the league’s summer season.

Another key reason for the slump was the lack of real stakes. By the time the Superliga 2025 Finals kicked off, all four teams had already locked in their spots at the EMEA Masters Summer 2025. The Finals only decided whether they advanced directly to the main stage or had to fight through the LCQ — a detail that didn’t generate much excitement. As a result, viewership stayed at relatively low levels.

The EMEA Masters Summer 2025 Last Chance Qualifiers will run from September 23 to 25, with the top four teams advancing to the main stage starting on September 29. The tournament will crown its champion in Paris during Paris Games Week.
