Tekken World Tour Finals 2024 became the most-watched TWT event by watch time

The Tekken World Tour (TWT) is an annual esports season dedicated to Tekken events. Since its launch in 2017, the tour has grown to become one of the most well-recognised modern fighting game community esports series. Organized directly by developers of Tekken, Bandai Namco Entertainment, the TWT features both official and grassroots esports events across the globe every year. The 2024 Finals was the first iteration played on the new Tekken 8.

Many various events are included under the TWT banner. For example, the Evolution Championship Series 2024 was a part of the 2024 TWT, even though the EVO series is long-standing and legendary in its own right. After a year of competition, players qualified to the Finals through either the Global Leaderboard, Regional Leaderboard, or sneaking in through the Last Chance Qualifier. The Finals kicked off on December 5, and came to a close three days later.

Tekken World Tour Finals 2024 Viewership Statistics

Throughout the Tekken World Tour Finals 2024, the tournament accumulated 1.2M Hours Watched. At 1.2M HW, this makes the TWT Finals 2024 the most popular Tekken World Tour event by total watch time. The event was also considerably longer than past TWT events.

The majority of these viewers were English-speaking, but as opposed to in the past where Twitch was by far the most popular platform of Tekken events, YouTube has now overtaken the purple platform. Held in Shibuya, Japan, the 2024 Finals were not held at ideal times for North American fans. English-language viewership was down slightly in 2024 compared to past years, but other Asian languages were bolstered.

The event reached 84.8K Peak Viewers for its Grand Finals. The match between Korean player Rangchu and ATIF was the first time these two players met during the playoffs; ATIF was knocked down to the losers bracket after one round, whereas Rangchu navigated the playoffs without losing a single match. The Korean player claimed his first ever top-tier event victory, and took home $100,000. Korean viewership was strong throughout the event, remaining similar in size to the record setting viewership of the 2022 event.

Compared to other Tekken World Tour Finals events, the post-Covid-19 period for Tekken continues to be particularly rewarding. After the event was forced to take a two-year hiatus due to lockdowns, it returned to immediately high viewership with the Global Finals in 2022, and the 2024 iteration fell just short of matching this series record viewership. The series is well-established at this point, and has a solid place within Tekken’s scene as an event which attracts considerable viewership consistently.
