VCT 2024 Masters Madrid has kicked off the international Valorant scene for 2024. The Swiss Group Stage of the event has enjoyed high viewership, raking in over 15.6M Hours Watched and hundreds of thousands of concurrent viewers. The teams who qualified for the event are a key part of its high viewership, and amid their 2024 international debut, many of these teams have expectedly reached a higher viewership than they enjoyed throughout their regional Kickoff tournaments. Let’s look at the most popular teams of the Swiss Stage, and also compare this to their Kickoff viewership. Most Popular Teams of Masters Madrid Group Stage Sentinels are the most popular team of the Masters Madrid so far by a significant margin. The North American organisation received 656.9K Average Viewers throughout their two Group Stage matches, boosted partially by their popular European opponents. Sentinels faced off against Karmine Corp and Team Heretics and defeated both of them to advance to the Playoffs with a 2-0 record. The American esports organisation is arguably Valorant’s most well-known brand, so it is unsurprising to see them at the top of this ranking. Interestingly, although Karmine Corp and Team Heretics are both popular and received high viewership on their own, they were not the most popular team of the VCT 2024 EMEA Kickoff. Fnatic, Masters Tokyo champions, was the most popular team of the Kickoff but failed to qualify for the Masters Madrid event. Nevertheless, compared to their Kickoff viewership Karmine Corp and Team Heretics saw a significant increase in viewership for this event. The French esports organisation almost tripled their viewership compared to the EMEA Kickoff, and they could have possibly gone even higher. Karmine Corp’s first match was against FunPlus Phoenix and this game garnered only 445.1K Average Viewers. If this initial low-viewership match is excluded from our statistics, Karmine Corp would be the most popular team of the stage. Karmine Corp dominated the French-language viewership for this initial stage of the event, almost entirely thanks to streamer and co-founder Kamet0. Kamet’s viewership was more than 13 times higher than the official French Valorant Twitch broadcast channel, and he was exclusively interested in streaming Karmine Corp’s games. Team Heretics are the third-most-popular team, but they did not achieve their viewership in the same way their EMEA partner Karmine Corp did. The Spanish esports organisation received 583.7K Average Viewers, again similar to Karmine Corp tripling their viewership compared to the EMEA Kickoff. However, whereas Karmine Corp’s viewership was boosted by a singular large community caster, Team Heretics’ viewership was more well-rounded. Team Heretics was the most popular team at the event for Spanish-speaking viewers, but it was much closer than one might expect. The Spanish organisation received only 12.3% higher average viewership from Spanish-speaking broadcasts compared to Sentinels; compare this to Karmine Corp’s 78.2% higher average viewership than Sentinels among French-language broadcasts. Team Heretics and Karmine Corp both stand at the top of Valorant viewership, but their methods are entirely different. Paper Rex, the #2 Pacific team behind Gen.G Esports, was close behind Heretics. The Singapore-based esports organisation garnered 578.8K Average Viewers, making them by far the most popular Asian team of the event. Paper Rex is popular among some Asian demographics like Indonesian and Thai-speaking audiences, but these demographics are so small compared to the discipline’s most popular languages that it doesn’t make much of a difference. Paper Rex’s popularity has eclipsed the Pacific region, as the esports organisation has built a name for itself in the international community over the years. Paper Rex are known for their aggressive and chaotic playstyle, often throwing other teams off their game with their unorthodox methods. Not only does this give the team a good chance at upset victories and close games, but it also makes their matches entertaining to watch, as viewers never know what's coming next. The viewership of Paper Rex’s match against EDward Gaming is a testament to their popularity. Usually, matches against Chinese teams exhibit low viewership statistics, as we cannot account for Chinese live-streaming platforms. However, Paper Rex’s match against the Chinese team earned 562.5K Average Viewers, becoming one of the event’s most popular matches, even outperforming all of LOUD’s games. Speaking of LOUD, the Brazilian esports organisation has had a rough time in Madrid so far. During the VCT 2024 Americas Kickoff, LOUD was the most popular team of all four regional Kickoff events, receiving 527.8K AV and over 80K viewers more than the next-most popular team. However, their viewership at the Masters Madrid Swiss Stage was shockingly low, receiving only 515.2K Average Viewers. LOUD was the only team in this top 5 to receive lower viewership at Masters Madrid than during their respective Kickoff tournament. LOUD had a rough start to the event, losing 1:2 against Gen.G in their first match. The match received decent viewership, but not the discipline-dominating viewership LOUD is used to. After this loss, LOUD went on to win two matches in a row, but unfortunately for their viewership, these matches were against both Chinese teams attending the event. LOUD enjoyed two easy victories over the Chinese teams, but these matches were some of the event’s least popular games. Again, we cannot account for Chinese live-streaming platforms in our statistics. Throughout the four regional Kickoff events, LOUD was the world’s most popular team, and by a significant margin. Although they suffered some mishaps and low viewership throughout the Group Stage, expect them to make a full recovery and receive their characteristically high viewership during the Playoffs stage. Their first match of the Upper Bracket Semifinals is against Sentinels, which could potentially reach over a million concurrent viewers as fans tune in for this Americas derby.
