Valorant and CS:GO: two different approaches to attracting viewership for two similar esports disciplines

Earlier this month, the Valorant Champions 2023 event came to a close as Americas-representatives Evil Geniuses claimed their first-ever Valorant championship and took $1M USD home with them. The event was one of the most popular Valorant events of all time, but how does it compare to another 5v5 tactical shooter? Valorant Champions 2023’s viewership was quite comparable to the viewership for the Blast.tv Paris Major in CS:GO, and here we’ll take a look at how the two high-stakes events highlight differences between the disciplines. 

The 2023 Valorant event failed to outperform the Valorant Champions 2022, currently the most-watched and most popular Valorant event ever, but it came close. Valorant Champions 2023 solidified its place as the second-most-watched Valorant event ever, and the third-most popular event per Peak Viewers.
