VCS Summer 2024 became the most popular event in the history of the Vietnamese league

The Vietnamese professional League of Legends scene continues to impress with its stability. The recently concluded VCS Summer 2024 saw GAM Esports emerge as the champion, marking their sixth consecutive tournament victory and ninth overall in the club’s history. This summer split also set a new viewership record.

The key competition for the 2024 Worlds slots was between GAM Esports and Vikings Esports. Both teams excelled during the group stage and met in the final match of the summer split. GAM Esports secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Vikings Esports; however, the Vikings players were probably not too disheartened, as both teams earned their spots for the World Championship.

VCS Summer 2024 Viewership Statistics

The grand final of VCS Summer 2024 achieved a peak viewership of 340,172 Peak Viewers, setting a new record for the Vietnamese league and representing the highest audience ever for matches involving Vikings Esports.

Several factors contributed to this record-breaking viewership. A major factor was the significant growth in YouTube viewership. Last summer, the peak on YouTube reached 141,400 concurrent viewers. For Summer 2024, this number increased to 209,000, resulting in more than double the audience for the official Vietnam Championship Series channel.

Additionally, the VCS saw a substantial boost from TikTok. This season, TikTok accounted for over 8.8% of the total Hours Watched, a significant increase from last year when VCS broadcasts were not available on the platform. The most popular VCS TikTok channel, vcslmht, reached a peak of approximately 46,200 concurrent viewers.

VCS Summer 2024 became the most popular tournament in the series' history and achieved the highest average viewership numbers over the past three years. However, it recorded one of the lowest total HW, failing to make it into the top ten seasons of VCS. This decline in total HW was largely due to a reduction in airtime.

While the VCS remains a model of stability in the professional League of Legends scene, there is still potential for growth in community engagement and the exploration of new platforms. The increase in viewership interest could also be driven by heightened internal competition among teams. For now, GAM Esports stands as the dominant force in the region.
