VCT 2023: Masters Tokyo's first day attracts fewer viewers than last year's tournament in series
On June 11, the VCT 2023: Masters Tokyo, the second international Valorant tournament in the current season (after VCT LOCK//IN Sao Paulo), began. The Japanese tournament did not start as strongly and gathered fewer fans watching on the first day than the previous Masters event held in Denmark last year.
VCT 2023: Masters Tokyo features 12 teams from three regional affiliate leagues — Americas, EMEA, and Pacific. They are competing for a prize pool of $1 million, with the winner receiving $350K. It is worth noting that the tournament uses a seeding system, with the champions of the regional leagues starting play in the playoffs, skipping the Group Stage.

On the first day of VCT 2023: Masters Tokyo broadcasts, 2.6 million Hours Watched were accumulated, which is roughly 13% fewer than during VCT 2022: Stage 2 Masters Copenhagen. The Average Viewers number of tournament streams was 287.5K, with the Peak Viewers number reaching up to 374.8K. Compared to the first day of the tournament in Denmark, these numbers dropped by 6% and 14%, respectively.
The most popular match on the first day of VCT 2023: Masters Tokyo was the game between Turkish club FUT Esports and American organization Evil Geniuses. During the first day of VCT 2022: Stage 2 Masters Copenhagen, the most viewers were gathered for the game between Brazilians from LOUD and the team representing Latin America, KRÜ Esports.
The champion of VCT 2023: Masters Tokyo will be determined on June 25. The final matches will be held at the Tipstar Dome Chiba stadium. The tournament's viewership statistics can be tracked on the event's reporting page.
