VCT 2024: Masters Shanghai Group Stage draws half the viewers of Masters Madrid
The Swiss Stage of the VCT 2024: Masters Shanghai concluded on May 27, with four teams heading home. The absence of star quality — in the commentary box and among the participants — was readily visible here, as this phase was not as successful as the corresponding one from the record-breaking VCT 2024: Masters Madrid.
So far, the VCT 2024: Masters Shanghai has reached 454.1K Peak Viewers, 8.6M Hours Watched, and 281.9K Average Viewers over an airtime of 31 hours. These were drops of 44.8%, 48.5%, and 45.9% from the Spanish event, which, as alluded to, ended as the most popular event ever in the discipline.

One reason for this pretty substantial fall in audience figures is the identity of the teams participating in the second Masters event of the VALORANT Champions Tour 2024. The Madrid competition had names like Sentinels, Karmine Corp, LOUD, and Team Heretics, each with a claim to being the game's most followed side, at least in their own regions, with rising APAC team Gen.G Esports also forcing people to take notice.
However, in China, the first three names are missing as they were unable to finish within the placings at their respective regional Stage 1 leagues that guaranteed them automatic slots at the second international LAN of the year. This is a massive miss, as all three sides were among the most popular in Madrid by average online viewers, which means that the languages they represent also took a nosedive.

Moreover, as predicted during our analysis of the lack of Madrid commentators on the desk in Shanghai, interest among fans who tune into these personalities' co-casting streams came down when it was revealed they would not be involved this time around. It could be seen in the fact that the English language's peak fell by 58.7% while the watch time saw an even greater fall of 106.8%.
Coupled with the fact that there is no Portuguese team this time, there was dwindled fan interest in catching the live streams of matches. After all, it is one of the top regions for Valorant, as seen in the stats from Madrid, where it was among the top two most successful languages.

The four sides that have made the Playoffs won't have much time to rest, as the stage begins on May 30. With the likes of G2 Esports, 100 Thieves, Fnatic, and EDward Gaming, there is still lots of potential for high-quality action that could pull in a large number of viewers.
