The World Series of Warzone 2022 regional finals in North America and Europe ended in September, and each event had a $300K prize pool. Esports Charts editors will tell you about the viewership numbers of these events.

World Series of Warzone 2022 is a series of 3×3 Call of Duty: Warzone tournaments that Activision Blizzard holds with the support of Amazon and Prime Gaming. The competition took place almost simultaneously in two regions, and the players include popular streamers, invited professional players, and winners of open qualifiers. Last year, World Series of Warzone was a part of Twitch Rivals, and in 2022, the series is being held as a stand-alone event.

Qualifications

Regional qualifiers for World Series of Warzone 2022 took place from August 20 to September 2. Forty teams in each region played a series of five maps. Frags made during the matches yielded points, which were multiplied by a certain coefficient based on the ranking. According to the results of the five maps, the top 20 teams advanced to the regional finals, which also featured another 20 teams that were invited there. This format was used both in Europe and in North America.

The North American tournament attracted more viewers than the European one by all key metrics. Qualifiers for WSOW 2022 NA lasted 6.5 hours, with matches accumulating 260K Hours Watched and attracting 71K Peak Viewers. Qualifiers for WSOW 2022 EU lasted an hour fewer, so the matches accumulated 204K Hours Watched. The Peak Viewers number of the European qualifiers was 46.4K people. It should be noted that the Average Viewers number of the tournaments was almost the same — 39K and 37K people, respectively.

Main Tournaments

The main tournaments drew far more viewers than the qualifiers. WSOW 2022 NA Finals matches amassed nearly 1.3 million Hours Watched in seven hours of airtime. The Average Viewers number was 232.5K people, and the Peak Viewers number — 293K people.

The most popular language of WSOW 2022 NA Finals is English (253.5K PV). The Top 3 languages includes also French (14.7K PV) and Italian (10.5K PV). Most of the viewers followed the matches on Twitch — 223.5K PV against 69K PV on YouTube Live. A little fewer than 10K PV watched the event on the Facebook platform.

The WSOW organizers, besides hosting the official broadcasts, also allowed the participants to stream the matches on their own channels on Twitch and YouTube. As a result, TimTheTatman became one of the most popular streaming channels, with 193K HW and 46.6K PV. Viewers also paid great attention to the official callofduty channel and the channel of Scump, one of the best professional players in Call of Duty from the U.S., who now plays for OpTic Texas. By the way, TimTheTatman and Scump played in the tournament in the same team and took 38th place among 40 teams.

WSOW 2022 EU Finals fell well behind the U.S. tournament by all metrics — the European division matches racked up 910K HW and drew 232K PV. The Average Viewers number at broadcast was 176.2K people.

The European tournament was more diverse in terms of broadcast languages. English broadcasts attracted the most viewers there as well (91.8K PV), but a lot of people watched broadcasts in French (74.8K), Italian (33.2K), German (17.6K) and Spanish (17K). As for the popularity of the platforms, the proportions shifted in favor of Twitch at the European tournament — 206K PV against 26.1K PV on YouTube.

The most popular channels dedicated to European qualifiers are chowh1, BBlade, and Swagg. Unlike the first two, Swagg did not participate in the event, but only streamed the matches. A large part of the audience followed the matches on the callofduty official channel. It is interesting that it was the BBlade mix that took first place in the tournament.

Comparing the audience reach of both finals with last year's tournaments, we can see that the metrics were slightly higher during the Twitch Rivals events. On the other hand, you can't say that the difference is too large. WSOW 2022 NA Finals even surpassed last year's Twitch Rivals for duos by Peak Viewers. WSOW 2022 EU Finals saw a bigger gap from last year's tournament: -19% of HW and -17% of PV.
